Making Your Man Cave As Good As It Gets
The idea of a man cave is a great one for a hardworking family man, for both women and men need their respective spaces in order to express themselves, relax, unwind and have a bit of an escape from the more routine and mundane elements of life. The following are just a few headings that can provoke some serious thought into how best to enhance one’s man cave. It is very far from a comprehensive list but can give you some good ideas for other areas which could benefit from being a little more creative, encouraging you to invest some further thought and money into making your ‘cave’ as good as it can be.
1. The Kegerator
Gone are the days of youth in which, for some, bragging rights could be gained by consuming large amounts of low quality, cheap beer in a short amount of time. You are now a man who has worked hard to put food on the table and, from time to time, like to have a few friends over to watch the game, but not necessarily want the hassle of loading up cans of beer which have later to be disposed of in a clean and efficient way. You might even feel bad about the amount of environmental waste you are creating, even with recyclable cans. A decent kegerator is, therefore, a great investment and can enable you to have high-quality beer on tap, whenever it is needed. You can even purchase a kegerator which will have three separate taps in order to cater to different tastes. You might have a hearty micro-brew on one tap, a Bud light on another, and a zero alcohol tap for non-alcohol drinking friends or for those who have driven to your house.
2. Dart Board
Dart boards have evolved over the years. You can of course invest in a decent standard dart board such as is used by professional darts players. High-quality sisal, staple free, and triangular wiring will give any man cave a sleek and stylish look and can provide hours of enjoyment for those who are gradually improving their skills in the game. However, if you just want a bit of fun you might consider an electronic dart board. It will allow multiple players, as many as 8, to participate against each other, keeping the score for you via its electronic interface. The actual darts used for it are nowhere near a professional standard but the interactivity, ease, and multiple programs it offers could make up for that. In fact, you could consider getting a traditional dart board and an electronic one to plan for different purposes.
3. Football Table
Football tables have also evolved over the years, and it could be a cool centerpiece to your mancave, giving it that sports bar look which might be a welcome feature. Remember, guys tend to like to be doing things when they get together, whether watching, drinking, or playing some kind of sport (or all three of those things simultaneously!) These days, a great innovation is the multi-purpose football table; one that can quickly convert into a ping-pong table, a pool table, or an air-hockey table. It will swivel over in seconds and help you to make a real night of it, especially if you include a few rounds of darts. With all multi-sport tables, the quality might not be as specifically high quality because it is being designed to meet multiple needs. However, if the aim is just to get together, have a few beers, and some fun, then this could be just the ticket.
4. 4k TV
These days, a large screen 4k TV is a great step forward in terms of being able to watch a movie or a game of sports in stunning, crystal clear detail. Unlike the best 1080P HD screen, which boasts 1920 x 1080 pixels, the 4k screen boasts a whopping 3840 x 2160 pixels, and so enables you to sit as close as you like to the screen without any quality being sacrificed. Compared with a regular standard definition screen you can sit twice as close; it is actually encouraged because you get the full benefits when sitting a little closer. Anything less than 4k will be at times a little blurred or moire when displaying fine detail such as things from nature, so any outdoorsy kind of movie or Discovery channel documentary won’t be nearly as realistic. The great news is that famous television brands are selling 4k TVs at more and more reasonable prices, so the chances of getting one into your man cave affordably are going up all the time.
5. VR Headset
To make your man cave even more cutting edge and futuristic, consider investing in a VR Headset or two. Why settle for regular viewing when you can enjoy the more immersive and exciting experience of wearing a headset that brings films and video games to life like never before. The good news is that such headsets are gaining in quality and lowering in cost all the time. The bad news is that you’ll probably have to replace yours by the end of the calendar year due to the ever-increasing drive for upgrades and refinements. Simply download the relevant apps and away you go. By the end of your viewing or playing experience, it will take you quite some time to adjust to reality. You may actually not want to adjust back to reality. That’s not really a problem, though; the whole point of a ‘cave’ is to have a time-out from reality, enjoying an escape from the daily grind of office politics and household duties.
Overall, these are just a few areas for you to consider. Other things, such as lighting, color schemes, furniture, specific themes, espresso bars, sports paraphernalia, music collections, and much more, can give you a project to work on over the coming months. While your wife might enjoy a ladies’ night, you will benefit from a guys’ night. What better way to unwind than to make it as appealing and comfortable as possible.
