I file regularly; I periodically prune my files, removing outdated material. I’m a good filer. However, I noticed today that I have a few files that might strike someone else as less than satisfactory. MISC. That’s descriptive. How is it different from PERSONAL? Then there’s the file I just closed up: STUFF.

That’s where I store the manuals for all my STUFF except for the computer stuff, which goes under PC.

Are you asking how Miscellaneous is different from Personal?

I don’t file Personal anything, but it’s divided into other main contexts (Health, Hobbies, ect.), with for instance Health catching other categories such as insurance and migrain medicine prescriptions (although from next year the paper prescriptions will be available in a national database and I can chuck out the paper one, YAY!).

I store kitchen manuals in the kitchen and a tv manual in the media centre. Otherwise I have digital manuals in a manual folder on the computer. By this I wanted to say that for me I think it’s important to identify everything and avoid the miscellaneous or stuff folders altogether.

Ninakk, I was so excited when I found digital manuals. My sale TV did not come with one, and I found it on the internet. Recently a cat wet on my weed eater manual, and I found it on the internet. Yay! It’s great when you don’t have to request another manual. You just find it on the internet!

I have a file labeled WHEN DEAD. That should help my executors.

    zora that’s hysterical. and practical.

I think I should label mine “pornography” just to ensure someone opens it and looks at it.

jmhva thanks for the link, very helpful

Zora, that’s funny. Mine is boringly labeled ’emergency’.

I need to clean out my file cabinet but I think I’ll wait til the end of the year since it’s so close and get everything out for tax time.

I am missing all these important files: misc, personal, stuff, when dead, pornography, emergency.

I must get my files in order!!!

    Hi Zora!

I don’t have a MISC or PERSONAL (or, sadly, PORNOGRAPHY) folder. I guess I don’t file anything that isn’t, to one degree or another, business.

Instead of WHEN DEAD I have “Will & Directives.”

Putting files in order is a great project for a cold or rainy day. There is something very rewarding, for me, about hauling a sack of paper off to the shredder and knowing everything left is something I actually need.
