DIY Cleaning Tips
When it comes to giving the house a quick clean without turning to harsh chemicals for assistance, then basic cooking ingredients could become your best friends! There’s simply no need to squander a small fortune on cleaning products and tools. Instead, you can look to our list of DIY cleaning ingredients and tips for inspiration.
Use Lemon Juice to Remove Foul Odours
Stinking dustbins, microwaves, and toilets can easily be made odourless with a dash of fresh lemon juice and our favourite additional ingredients – baking soda and vinegar!
How: Simply mix your baking soda and lemon juice together to create a paste. Put rubber gloves on your hands and then use your fingers to rub the paste onto the surfaces you want to deodorise. Leave the mixture to sit for 10-15 minutes. Dip a cloth or sponge into a cup of vinegar and wipe down the surfaces. Wipe clean until all of the baking soda granules have been removed.
Use Vodka to Remove Stains
Vodka is more than just a great cocktail ingredient. The alcohol in this spirit can be used to remove tough stains from carpets, upholstery, and even clothes without damaging the fabric.
How: Blot the stain to absorb all excess spillage. Then, pour your clear vodka over the stain so that it is completely covered with alcohol. Leave it to settle for a few minutes and then gently rub the area with a warm and damp soft cloth.
Buff Surfaces with Olive Oil
Whether you need to polish your furniture or buff out scuffs on your sports equipment, olive oil is a great go-to product.
How: Dab some olive oil onto a soft cloth and then rub it onto your surface using circular motions until the area is polished to a shine and dirt is removed.
Clean Windows with White Vinegar and Water
We’re whipping out the vinegar again but this time it’s for your windows. This is not only an extremely affordable way of washing glass, but it’s also a very effective one.
How: Mix white vinegar and warm water and give your solution a shake. You can add essential oils for a pleasant scent. Use a spray bottle to spray the mixture onto your windows, mirrors, and shower doors and then wipe the surfaces dry with paper towels or newspaper.
Remove Grime with Baking Soda and Vinegar
You could call baking soda a super-ingredient. Its uses are almost endless. When it comes to cleaning, it especially works wonders when mixed with white vinegar. The combination of baking soda and vinegar creates a concoction that lifts grime and built-in stains for easy cleaning.
How: Mix 1 cup of vinegar with half a cup of baking soda. Add hot water. Pour the mixture onto dirty surfaces or soak pots and pans in the solution for 10 minutes before washing as usual.
Now you can “DIY” your way to a sparkling home with creative and ever-so-easy ways of getting things clean and in tip-top shape! And as an added bonus, ALL of the ingredients we have used are natural and environmentally friendly.
