Oven mitts come in all sizes and designs. They might not be the sexiest fashion item but they are an essential part of your kitchen kit. They don't perform the same important function as, say, a stove or a thermal pot but they carry out what we think is a far more vital function. Oven gloves provide your hands and arms with protection from heat so they cut the risk of scalds and burns.
It doesn't matter whether you are an occasional cook or an esteemed chef your oven mitts are the single bit of protection between a scorching hot pot holder or bake ware. To cut the risk of an accident you need the best oven gloves - mitts made with run-of-the-mill fabrics aren't good enough.
We carried hot pot cookers, brutally hot oven racks, and generally completed everyday kitchen tasks that the average household cook might do. Looking at heat resistance and how hot the gloves can get before it's too much, how comfortable the gloves were, whether they were machine washable, how they're designed, and the basics like colorways.
Here are the sixteen reviews the Unclutterer team came up with for our best oven gloves 2020 lineup.
The Best Oven Glove
1. ARCLIBER Heat Resistant Quilted Cotton Oven Gloves

Key Features
Resistant up to 425F
Flame resistance 10 seconds
100% cotton
Length 13 to 17″
Quilted design
Best choice and the first on our list is the ARCLIBER Heat Resistant Quilted Cotton Oven Gloves. Available in 4 different colors, they’ll sit well hanging up in any kitchen. They were quite comfortable inside but quite stiff. and come in three lengths and seem well made. If you get the longest available which is 17 inches, they’ll offer more arm cover but they can be folded at the top if you don’t need so much protection. They can’t be put in the washing machine largely because this will break down the treatment (fire retardancy) so we see them getting quite grubby over time. Great pot holders are highly heat resistant and a great price.
Pros
Well made
Heat and fire-resistant
Heavy duty
Cons
Not machine washable
Questionable resistance at 425F
Large, difficult to handle some pots
Not easy to clean (spot clean only)
2. LoveU Silicone and Cotton Double-layer Heat Resistant Oven Gloves

Key Features
Resistant up to 425F
Waterproof
Silicone
Standard, XL-XXL
Textured design
These LoveU Silicone and Cotton Double-layer Heat Resistant Oven Gloves have fingers which seems more convenient when handling hot and cold pots, pans, and bakeware. Promising to be resistant up to 425 degrees Fahrenheit, they certainly seem it and have one of the top gradings for food handling (LFGB). They come up pretty roomy so if you are looking for oven mitts that are snugger these ones may not be for you as it would be difficult to hold anything securely. For a great price, you get a pair of gloves with a silicone outer and a comfortable lining and because of the outer material, you can open jars with them on too.
Pros
Refund guarantee
Dishwasher safe
FDA and LFGB approved
Cover wrists suitably
Cons
Not all pairs come with black protection shown in description
Colors not great
Fingers come up long
3. HighLoong 932°F Extreme Heat Resistant BBQ Oven Safety Gloves

Key Features
Resistant up to 932F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Heat resistant aramid fibers
Heavy duty
Length 10.5″ to 13″
Available in black or white with a standard cuff, which we tested, or long cuff, the HighLoong 932°F Extreme Heat Resistant BBQ Oven Safety Gloves look more like something a woodworker might wear so we were all in agreement we’d wear these in a cold winter garden if we wanted! They’re lined inside, so despite the industrial look, they are actually comfortable to wear, protecting the wrists. We weren’t sure about using near a flame even for a second in case the fabric would melt, but used in a hot grill and we didn’t feel any heat after about 5 seconds. Good all-rounder but not for the occasional cook that wants a ‘pretty’ design. We tested at around 400 degrees Fahrenheit and weren’t sure about claims of up to 932F resistance and hands did get hot after a short time.
Pros
Machine washable
Industrial style
Five finger handling
Cons
Some may not like ‘gardening’ style design
Short heat protection time
Odd fit
4. Heat Guardian Heat Resistant Oven Gloves

Key Features
Resistant up to 932F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Length 12.9″
Heat Guardian Heat Resistant Oven Gloves are pretty neat looking if you like a skeletal design that is! They do fit snugly so the dexterity is better than thicker five-fingered oven gloves so you can hold the pot while manipulating ingredients without burning. They do heat up when lifting extremely hot pans like iron griddles, but we didn’t suffer any burns wearing these pot holders – just warm hands. They cover the forearm in part so offer a good bit of protection and a silicone grip, and they’re not as cumbersome as using an oven mitt. Get these and use them on Halloween night too!
Pros
Great design
Highly heat resistant
Easy to clean
Good for home kitchens
Cons
Unsure on 932F claims
5. Cuisinart Silicone Mini Oven Mitts

Key Features
Resistant up to 450F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Cotton w. silicone grip
Quilted
Length 7″
Cuisinart Silicone Mini Oven Mitts come in five pleasant colors. They don’t have separate thumbs so will be a good fit for most – they’re more a ‘puppet’ design but this worked for us. There are longer versions available if you prefer to cover wrists and forearms too. The grip inside the ‘mouth’ is dotted with silicone so they do grip pots and pans really well. Even though the manufacturer says hand wash only you can still set the washing machine to this setting but don’t put in the drier. You get a pair of mitts which, because of the design, you can use on either hand. We liked these because they’re small enough to put in a drawer and nice enough to hang up using the handy loop.
Pros
Good colorways
Cute design
Well known manufacturer
Other options available
Make great gifts
Cons
No wrist protection with mini version
Hands get hot quickly
6. Gorilla Grip Premium Silicone Slip Resistant Oven Gloves

Key Features
Resistant up to 484F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length 12.5″
We tried these Gorilla Grip Premium Silicone Slip Resistant Oven Mitts in pink, because they’re cute but thinking about the safety aspects they offer a good grip and no burned fingers! They come in a pack of two and although they don’t have fingers, just a space for your thumb, they are flexible enough to lift pans and pots with ease. These were the best oven gloves on our list for price versus durability so make the best choice on our list. There’s no fabric cuff like some on our list so is easy to clean and didn’t stain when we tested them. You might like that they have a padded lining too, offering a little more comfort than expected.
Pros
10-year guarantee
Flexible
BPA free
Great colors
Cons
Can rip easily
7. Auzilar Silicone Cooking Gloves

Key Features
Resistant up to 464F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length 13.7″
These professional style Auzilar Silicone Cooking Gloves for oven use and more are ergonomically designed with a textured appearance and available in black. With a five-finger design, you can grab much more easily and the silicone design allows a good grip. Use them to move hot pots and grill pans. We like that they have a comfortable lining which extends past the glove to protect wrists and partially the forearms from burns and splatters.
Pros
Non slip grip
Comfortable lining
Food grade silicone
BPA free
FDA assured
Cons
Short
Quite thin
8. DAMUZHI Extra Long Silicone Oven Mitts

Key Features
Resistance unknown
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length 13″ or 19.7″
DAMUZHI Extra Long Silicone Oven Mitts are extremely large in the hand too so when we tested them we decided instantly that the fitting isn’t really very good and makes for it to be difficult to do smaller tasks like pressing the buttons on the grill or stove. The one main benefit was that the arms were entirely covered up the elbows so any splashing from grease or hot water was absorbed. We liked that they come with a bag for storage but this was a bit pointless – the gloves are so big and the bag so small that this is impractical as they won’t fit! They fit flat in a drawer or on a hanger in the kitchen so not a big problem. They would be great for using hot grills in a professional kitchen or for the barbeque although we’re unsure as to the measurement on heat resistance. We tried the longest version in black but there is a shorter version available and there’s an orange color too.
Pros
FDA approved
Flexible
Long lasting
Cons
Odd fitting
9. JHK Heat Resistant Flamingo Oven Gloves

Key Features
Resistant to 500F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Cotton
Patterned design
Length 11″
You might love a little bit of color in your kitchen and these JHK Heat Resistant Flamingo Oven Gloves have a very cute flamingo design with either a white or navy background – a plain black quilted design is available too. They’re designed in a classic mitt style with thumb and come in a pair. The heat resistance is great and we didn’t notice any problems with heat transfer through the gloves. Unlike some, because of the fire-resistant treatment, we put them in the washing machine on a low heat but left to dry naturally. They’re handy for moving, lifting, or touching any hot object but we wouldn’t recommend touching food directly as they may become easily stained.
Pros
Cotton
Cute design
Comfortable
Affordable
Cons
May prefer gloves for improved dexterity
10. Acronde 2 Pairs Mini Silicone Heat Resistant Cooking Pinch Mitts

Key Features
Resistant to 446F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length N/A
This really is a mini oven mitt but is designed to be so. Covering the fingers and thumb and, depending on how long your fingers are, your knuckles too. Acronde 2 Pairs Mini Silicone Heat Resistant Cooking Pinch Mitts won’t offer protection to wrists but are great just for picking up the handles of pots and pans and will protect from cold too. You have to be careful not to burn yourself and we wouldn’t recommend using to reach into an oven or over a grill with them. As far as mini potholders go these are cute and easy to store – we left them on the oven handle as they just sit over it neatly. At under $9 this is the Unclutterer budget pick and you’ll get two pairs in blue/red or green/pink. These are ideal for handling small items with your fingers and lifting objects from the hob but must be used carefully as they’re thin and difficult to keep on your hands.
Pros
Cute and nice color options
Inexpensive
Silicone
Good grip
Cons
Only protection for fingers
Thin
Unlined
Questionable heat resistance
11. HOMWE Extra Long Professional Silicone Oven Mitts

Key Features
Resistant to 450F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length 14.7″
With at least ten colorways, the HOMWE Extra Long Professional Silicone Oven Mitts claim to be oil and waterproof, the only thing we’d say is the fabric that extends from the glove absorbs liquids and protects but of course needs cleaning, so you can pop them in the dishwasher or washing machine but not the drier. The pair of gloves offer good cover for forearms and the one-size-fits-all and good grip means these oven mitts are pretty good. Perhaps no the best oven glove in the world.
Pros
FDA approved
BPA free
Machine washable
Cons
Difficult to pick up some objects
12. HOMWE Silicone Oven Mitts and Pot Holders Set of 4

Key Features
Resistant to 450F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length 13.7″ to 14.7″
The second HOMEWE on our list, HOMWE Silicone Oven Mitts and Pot Holders Set of 4 perhaps are the best oven mitts if you’re looking for flexibility. They are heat resistant to temperatures for the home kitchen and will protect your hands, wrists, and forearms. They are FDA approved and feature a silicone outer with a non-grip texture so it’s easy to handle hot pans and bakeware. We found that they are flexible enough that it’s easier than using thicker, cotton oven gloves, and there’s an extra-long version at 14.7 inches so most of the forearm can be protected too. Resistant to 450 degrees Fahrenheit these oven mitts do make for a good pot holder. They come in four colorways too -black, grey, blue and red. You might like that they have great positive reviews too.
Pros
FDA approved
BPA free
Flexible
Cons
Don’t hold heat for long
13. JH Heat Resistant Double Silicone Layer Oven Gloves

Key Features
Resistant to *unknown*
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length 10.1″
The JH Heat Resistant Double Silicone Layer Oven Gloves come in quite a large size so might not be great for smaller hands. They have a cotton lining so are pretty comfortable to wear and the pair you get are reversible so the silicone outer on both sides is a bonus. These oven gloves come in four colorways which fit into any kitchen decor and suit all tastes if you prefer the style and design. They can handle high levels of heat so you can get bakeware right out of the oven and they help with dexterity as the silicone used is quite thin but high quality. They didn’t get too hot while moving hot pans and bakeware but as fingered pot holders they did the job. They’re non-slip too so gripping pots and pans is easy. You might like that they’re machine washable but only on a cold wash, don’t put in the drier.
Pros
Reversible
High heat resistance
Cons
Not suitable for small hands
Poor % of positive reviews
14. FERLLYMI Heat Resistant Silicone Shell Kitchen Oven Mitts

Key Features
Resistant to 500F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length 13″
Available in 11 colorways, FERLLYMI Heat Resistant Silicone Shell Kitchen Oven Mitts not only look good but also protect your hands as you would expect. This extra-long version guards against drips and splashes and the inside is comfortable too. They are easy to clean although we don’t recommend putting in the washing machine as the heat resistant silicone may get damaged under a high heat wash. A simple clean under warm water and soap, while you’re wearing them, is enough. We think that you might like the different designs and that the silicone outer helps protect from heat as well as making it easy to grip pots and pans.
Pros
Cotton lining
Waterproof
Cons
Slippery interior
15. Cuisinart Heat Resistant Quilted Oven Gloves

Key Features
Resistant to 500F
Flame resistance 0 seconds
Silicone
Textured design
Length 13.5″
From one of the most reputable and experienced kitchen companies, these Cuisinart Heat Resistant Quilted Oven Gloves come in five colorways and keep your hands safe from burns and scalds. A pair will be supplied and we love this oven mitt and it made our premium pick. They’re an excellent choice for protecting your fingers, hands, wrists, and forearms and claim to withstand up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit so make great pot holders if you want to be safe while you move and lift hot objects from the oven or grill. At less than $25 they worked really well to keep heat from our hands and although they are mitts and not finger gloves they weren’t so thick that we couldn’t move pots easily.
Pros
FDA approved
BPA free
Non-slip grip mitts
Comfortable inner
Cons
Come up small

The knitted design means that they are quite flexible making them easy to use. The left and right hands are similar in shape so they will fit most hands. They have a 2.7-inch sleeve that protects and guards the wrist and you could probably wear these for moving logs or even cycling in the cold of winter too!

Features To Consider With Oven Gloves
Don't stick your hands in your oven before considering a little bit of protection. Oven mitts and gloves are a staple in your kitchen, especially for the home cook or professional chef. While we tested some of the best pot holder mitts and gloves, it's up to you to choose between design or protection - or both.
To get a better grip on your hot pans and make sure you choose heat protection over style, we tested and reviewed what were claimed to be the best oven mitts and gloves on the market. An oven mitt is a tool that doesn't have fingers but will safeguard your hands while the best oven gloves give you flexibility and dexterity when it comes to handling hot objects.
Whether you are roasting, grilling, boiling, or baking you'll want to guard your digits. Here are some tips when you're looking out for a good pair of oven mitts or gloves to add to your kitchen tool kit.
Design
A good mitt makes a great pot holder and should be well insulated so that your hands don't get burned. You might not think that they're a good tool kit for the kitchen until you start burning your knuckles and scalding your forearms. Design, as in the way they look, might be just as important to you as the protection they offer. The materials and fire-retardancy should be considered long before the pattern on your new oven mitt. If you're picking up a thermal pot or testing the steam coming off your boiled food then you'll want to be guarded against accidents.
When you're looking at design make sure you check the mitts' heat resistance and material used first and how easy they are to use - gloves don't have fingers where mitts do having five fingers and stiff fabric which can still make them difficult to use.
Ease Of Cleaning
Even if gloves and mitts are made in the traditional cotton style it doesn't mean they are machine washable as they're treated with a fire-resistant chemical that can diminish through hot washing. Cotton can also stain quite badly so you're cute mitts may not look so neat after putting through the machine or dishwasher.
Silicone gloves can often be put through the washer but they're just as easily cleaned by using warm water and soap as you finish with them.
Heat Resistance
Super thick oven mitts will give good insulation and protection from the heat although it might make carrying and holding more fragile objects like glass more difficult. You'll want to grab pots and oven trays with ease as well as being able to hold them for seconds and even some cloth oven mitts come with silicone additions to add texture and help you grip items.
The heat resistance is more important and, while we tested and reviewed some with claims of being highly heat resistant we found that some at over 900 degrees Fahrenheit wasn't much better than those claiming to be resistant to 450F.
Length
The length is going to be important depending on how careful you are and how much you want to protect your hands, wrists, and arms. The longest we reviewed was around 17 inches and the shortest mini mitts were about 7 inches so it depends on whether you are just going to use your mitts or gloves as a simple pot holder to protect your fingers, or if you're an oven cook who often has your arms in a hot stove or over a flaming grill.
Multi Use
Some of the gloves and oven mitts we came across are brilliant both for heat resistance and also handling cold objects. They were so flexible that they could second-up as gardening gloves and even for cycling.
Some of the best we found was five-fingered and flexible for a multitude of uses.
Size
Do look out for the sizes and measure accordingly. Some that are one-size-fits-all are usually mitts that don't have fingers. Even some of the silicone options we found came up really large which meant that they weren't easy to use when our team wanted to handle pots as well as pressing buttons on a thermal pot or the hob.
Oven Glove FAQ
Q: Are silicone gloves better than fabric oven gloves?
Silicone gloves are usually better heat repellers compared to fabric. Fabric is treated for fire-resistance and the cloth can become much less heat resistant as they are washed over time. If you want something that looks good hanging up in your kitchen then cloth mitts do have the upper hand. If you prefer protection and ease of cleaning then silicone can protect you from around 450F and can be cleaned under the sink after every use.
Q: Can oven gloves go in the washing machine?
Not all can go in the washing machine and even some need to go into a cold wash. This is largely due to the treatment they receive to ensure that they are fire or flame resistant.
Check the manufacturers guidelines first.
