You can get measuring spoons in plastic, stainless steel, or silicone and as we've found over the years they make a must-have addition to any kitchen. Whether you're an accomplished cook or are starting out following your favorite recipes, measuring spoons, same as digital kitchen scales, can give you a way to precisely measure the ingredients for your measuring jug so you simply can't go wrong.
We tested and reviewed some of the best measuring spoons, in our opinion, some of which we would highly recommend and some that are simply due for a place in your kitchen drawer. The first of our lineup is our best choice both for price and ability to multi-function, with our last being equally as good a price as they are versatile.
Looking at twelve measure spoons and sets we had a look at whether they'll be good at measuring just 1 teaspoon or 1 tablespoon or if they come in a set if they can make sure you have to hand what every cook and baker needs in the kitchen. Below you'll see some tips on what to look out for too.
The Best Measuring Spoon
1. Spring Chef Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Metal Measuring Spoons

Key Features

Store these in a spice jar, your kitchen clutter drawer, or hang up so they’re easy to hand. We start off with our best choice option, the Spring Chef Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Metal Measuring Spoons which begin with 1/8 of a teaspoon and end with a leveler knife. They’re pretty heavy-duty, rust-free, and they’re designed to fit into a spice jar for easy seasoning. This set is dishwasher safe and because of the flat-backed design, they’ll sit on the countertop to make sure you don’t get spillage. When you’re storing them they fit snugly together. You might like that the measurements are easy to read and they’re engraved so they won’t wipe off over time.
Pros
Stainless steel
Rust free
Store neatly
Inexpensive
U.S. & metric
Cons
Not 100% accurate
2. Fsdifly Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons – 5 Piece Set

1/4 tsp to 1 tbsp
Stainless steel
Spoon shaped
Removable ring
The Fsdifly Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons are stackable and look fun, as well as being easy to hang or be stored easily in any kitchen storage. We like that the spoons are color-coded so great for cooks and bakers with poor eyesight. The team also likes that the measurements, both U.S and metric, are etched into the design so they won’t wear off through use. Whether you’re measuring spices, seasonings or baking ingredients they appear pretty accurate. The ring that holds the set together is large so it’s easy to separate each spoon when measuring and it’s detachable if you want to split them up when cleaning the set.
Pros
Highly affordable
Colorful
Engraved spoon measurement
Easy-grip
Cons
Small selection of sizes
3. Cuisipro Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons – 5 Piece Set

Key Features
Length 5.75″
Set of 5
1/8 tsp to 1 tbsp
Stainless steel
Oval shaped
Removable ring
Unlike the Fsdifly measuring spoons on number 2. of our review list, the Cuisipro Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons set is oval-shaped and purposefully designed to fit into a spice jar or small measuring cups. They make a handy tool for keeping in the kitchen for measuring spices and seasonings, and even infant milk and medications. This set is durable and looks good with stamped measurements in U.S. and metric which won’t fade over time and use. We like that they have been designed so the spoons are fairly deep so can hold ingredients and liquids well.
Pros
Stainless steel
Great design
Easy to clean
Cons
Keyring can be difficult to remove
4. OXO Good Grips 7-Piece Plastic Measuring Spoons

Key Features
Length 6″
Set of 7
1/8 tsp to 1 tbsp
Plastic
Round spoon-shaped
The OXO Good Grips 7-Piece Plastic Measuring Spoons are our choice for the best budget pick and come in a set of seven with a lockable grip for storing. Measuring spoons aren’t difficult to shop for but at its price, they work out as a great addition to any kitchen. It’s easy to snap just one spoon out so the rest don’t get unnecessarily covered in the spices or seasonings you are measuring, and go back together after cleaning so that they aren’t splayed about in the drawer. The snap feature doubles up as a scraper too although we don’t recommend it for use on hot items. The measurements per spoon are color-coded although they’re not etched in so we think they’ll wear over time. They are plastic spoons and ideal for the dishwasher, and they feel pretty sturdy.
Pros
Color-coded
Food-grade plastic
Stackable
Affordable
Cons
Measuring markers might wear off
5. CuttleLab 22-Piece Stainless Steel Measuring Cups and Spoons Set

Key Features
Length 7.4″

1/8 tsp to 1 tbsp + more
Stainless steel
Round spoon-shaped
Hinged rings
Our premium pick is the CuttleLab 22-Piece Stainless Steel Measuring Cups and Spoons, this set is not featuring just teaspoon and tablespoon measurements but also helps measure out cups and mini-measurements if you want to add ‘just a drop’. The handles are color-coded which makes it easy to identify measurements, especially for the poor sighted. For any kind of prep works you need to do in the kitchen, these have pretty good accuracy and the set feels sturdy too. Easily cleaned after measuring out your wet or dry ingredients and the set does include more or less everything that you need. The only thing we would mention is that the steel is fairly thin and would possibly rust over time.
Pros
Great full kitchen set
Color-coded
Great % of positive ratings
Markings etched in
Cons
Can rust

7. Spring Chef Dual Sided Magnetic Measuring Spoons Set

Key Features
Length 6.9″
Set of 8
1/8 tsp to 1 tbsp
Stainless steel
Double-sided
Best value doesn’t always have to mean cheap and although this Spring Chef Dual Sided Magnetic Measuring Spoons – 8 Piece Set is made to be long-lasting and, we think, indispensable. Each spoon is dual-sided with one side having the same measurement as the other but designed in a round or oval shape so that they’ll fit into jars and small containers. This measuring spoon set stacks neatly so is ideally kept in a drawer organizer with other kitchen utensils. You might like that the measurements are clearly labeled with U.S. and metric readings and the set is dishwasher safe so can be easily cleaned. The only thing was that they don’t have holes for hanging up so to keep spoons together they have to be stacked and might come loose while storing. They have excellent rating levels so far too!
Pros
Leveler included
8 pieces – dual-sided
Easy to clean
Durable
Cons
Flimsy feel
8. Bits and Pieces Ceramic Measuring Spoons

Key Features
Container 5″ tall
Set of 5
1/4 tsp to 1 tbsp
Ceramic
Fancy a rooster design on your measuring spoons? Here you go and we love these Bits and Pieces Ceramic Measuring Spoons that come with a matching ceramic storage container to keep the spoons together when they’re not in use. Very cute, but how do they work? They looked brilliant in the kitchen and more a feature than that of a more functional set but actually, they seemed to measure accurately if used with a level to scrape off excess ingredients. The measurements are clearly marked on each of the four spoons although we wouldn’t recommend putting in the dishwasher as they’re easily cleaned just using warm water and soap.
Pros
Easy to clean
Great design
Perfect gift
Cons
More decorative than functional
Easily broken
9. KitchenAid Classic Measuring Cups and Spoons – 9 Piece Set

Key Features
Length 6.9″
Set of 9

9 colorways
The collective rings keep this set of nine separated into two for both the cups and the smaller spoon measures so you can keep everything together either hanging up or in the kitchen drawer. We love that KitchenAid Classic Measuring Cups And Spoons – 9 Piece Set comes in many different colors so they’ll complement any kitchen decor as well as being pretty handy for use in the kitchen. This set has some of the best positive ratings that we have seen although we recommend you hand wash them rather than putting them in the dishwasher. You might agree that the aqua color we reviewed is absolutely timeless.
Pros
BPA free
Dishwasher safe
Nice color choices
1 year guarantee
Cons
Measurement markings might wear off
Dishwash on cold/lukewarm only
10. Amco Professional Performance Measuring Spoons – 6 Piece Set

Key Features
Length 7.1″
Set of 6
1/8 tsp to 1 tbsp
Stainless steel
Stackable
We think you’ll like this set of six including a measurement spoon for everything you need like salts, spices, and liquids. The Amco Professional Performance Measuring Spoons – 6 Piece Set has been designed in a spoon style with a pointed edge so it’s easy to scoop as you need to. They feel quite heavy and we’d probably recommend these for the professional kitchen too. The only thing that we would mention is that the handles are quite short so although the spoon will fit into a jar, it won’t reach particularly deep. The set includes the most popular measurements you will need in the kitchen and including 1.8 to 1 teaspoon and 1/2 to 1 tablespoon. As far as steel measuring spoons go these, we think, will stand the test of time. The measurements are stamped into the steel and they are constructed in one piece so shouldn’t break easily over time.
Pros
Professional performance
Heavy-duty
Affordable
Long-lasting
Cons
May prefer a higher quality steel construction
Possibly rust over a few years

Every kitchen should have a fab set of the best measuring spoons and the Wildone Premium Stainless Steel Measuring Cups and Spoons – 16 Piece Set doesn’t fall short. The spoon design is rounded and the cups have been styled cleverly so they stack equally as well. The handles on these stainless steel measuring spoons and cups are silicone so do have a good grip, and they’re nicely color-coded too. They are supplied with stainless steel rings which are easy to open and close, keeping the spoons and cups together whether you’re hanging them or popping in the kitchen drawer. The cup measurements start at 1/16 or 15ml for liquids with the largest capacity being 1 cup.

12. Sanchow Dual Sided Magnetic Measuring Spoons Set

Key Features
Length 6.9″ (approx.)
Set of 6
1/8 tsp to 1 tbsp
Stainless steel
Double-sided
We like the Sanchow Dual Sided Magnetic Measuring Spoons Set and it could possibly be the best measuring spoons at its price. With this set you’ll get dual-sided spoons – the round end is great for measuring liquids, and the oval ends are good for reaching into narrow-necked jars and containers. The magnets will keep them nested neatly together when they’re stored in the kitchen drawer although the only thing we’d say is that the easy-grip detailing with the measurements imprinted will mean that the numbers, both U.S. and metric, will easily rub off in time.
Pros
Dishwasher safe
Superb level of positive ratings
Cons
Claims that measurements are etched – they aren’t
Magnets aren’t particularly strong
Features To Consider With Measuring Spoons
Design
Design and style can be important to some but the most important that we think should be considered is that the measurements are accurate. Good design from a reputable company will mean that they've been constructed to measure exactly what it states on the spoon.
An essential design feature if you want your measuring spoons to last is that the measurement markings are etched or engraved into the design so that they don't fade quickly like they would if they were simply printed on.
Make sure your set includes a narrow design if you need to be able to reach into narrow-necked jars and containers. The oval and rectangular spoons are more likely to be able to access much easier than rounded spoons.
Having good grips is handy for slippy hands too.
Ease of Cleaning
Most of the best measuring spoons can be popped into the dishwasher but only at a low temperature. Spoons are generally easily cleaned as they don't have joins so the best care recommendation we can give is to simply use warm water and soap once you're finished measuring. Dry off and put away in the drawer or hang up ready for your next recipe bonanza.
Size
Whether you are going to splurge on the latest trendy set just for show, or you really are concerned about that 1 teaspoon measurement or the measuring cups that your new set comes with, size is important. If you're going to be reaching into deep containers then you'll need to make sure your set includes long-handled spoons. If you're looking for something that's smaller and easy to store then short-handled spoons are good. Look out for whether they have a pierced hole for hanging or if they come with an easy to open ring for keeping the set together when not in use.
Material
There are different materials to look out for and the majority of the twelve we have reviewed were stainless steel. If you're looking for long-lasting spoons then steel is a good choice but you are best making sure that the material is rust-resistant.
Plastic spoons like the OXO Good Grips look great and are easy to clean, plus they won't rust, although if the measure marker isn't etched or engraved into the material this will fade over time and there's nothing worse than trying to guess your measurements!
If you choose steel you don't have to have something plain either like the AMCO Professional set we reviewed. If you like a bit of color in your kitchen you might like to mix steel with plastic - a bit like the CuttleLab where the set includes either country style colorways or a more vibrant and fun color option.
Measuring Spoon FAQ
Q: How accurate are measuring spoons?
Some spoons can easily be marginally inaccurate but we found that the OXO Good Grips were pretty much there in terms of offering precise measurements. It can be difficult to get the smallest perfectly accurate, even the best-measuring spoons might be out slightly. Part of this is also about leveling out your ingredients once you have loaded a spoon so that you can achieve the most precise measurement for your needs. Most spoons certainly are accurate enough to fulfill recipes but when we tested we did find that a 1/4 tsp was more like 1/3 so it's worth just getting used to the set and making sure the taste is up to standard - and that it works suitably for your needs.
Q: Are stainless steel measuring spoons better than plastic?
The best spoons for measuring should be accurate and have the markings shown in U.S. and metric so that it's easy to convert a recipe.
With that in mind, whether plastic or stainless steel spoons are better is a pure choice. If you do decide on plastic (you'll find lots of colors available rather than plain old steel) make sure that the manufacturer describes that the plastic is non-toxic, or BPA free, and that the set is made with food-grade plastics.
Some stainless steel sets aren't rust-resistant so if you want your measuring spoons to be long-lasting then you will need to check the description and make sure that they are resistant. If they aren't then you risk them corroding in a short space of time, especially if you are putting them in a hot dishwasher after each use.
In summary, we would tend to avoid plastic if you can as the heat from a dishwasher can melt the material rendering them inaccurate and pretty much useless. We recommend sets with etched measurements because printed markings will come off all too easily.
