Unitasker Wednesday: Smartduvet

All Unitasker Wednesday posts are jokes — we don’t want you to buy these items, we want you to laugh at their ridiculousness. Enjoy!

Smartduvet is non-permanent insert that attaches to your existing duvet and slips inside your duvet cover. Once activated using your smartphone app, it will make your bed for you.

I must admit, this is a pretty cool piece of technology. I agree with the manufacturers that it would be very useful for those who have mobility challenges but beyond that, do people today really need an app to make their own beds?

Considering how much time my own teenagers spend staring at their phones, it’s a possibility. However, I do not think Smartduvet is the answer for them because every morning the duvets are on the floor. On the weekends duvets are often dragged out to the living room so the teens can continue sleeping on the sofa.

But, I ask this philosophical question, “If a bed is unmade when no one is home to see it, does it really matter?”

Thanks to reader Llynn for pointing this unitasker out to us.

We learned to make our beds at age 3 (expectations for neatness increased as we got older). My bed was made everyday.
Marriage brought changes. My husband prefers to have the covers right where he left them when he got up so that he can climb right back in. He works away from home half of the month. When he is away, I will usually make the bed, when he is home the bed stays unmade. We each have our own blankets on our side of the bed as well.
If someone would only perfect for marketing the finger snapping method of tidying up used by Mary Poppins. . . .

But wait…don’t people also sleep under a sheet? It only pulls up a duvet and not a sheet and blanket. And it takes about ten seconds to pull up a duvet. Shaking my head in disbelief. Those dudes need to invent something useful, like an automatic dog poo picker-upper. 😉

You don’t need a sheet, the duvet cover is your sheet. I timed myself this morning and it takes exactly 22 seconds to make the bed.

Sheets are not usually used with duvets. Duvet cover are used, that can be taken off and washed.

That should have said, “top sheets”.
