Unitasker Wednesday: Jonny Glow

All Unitasker Wednesday posts are jokes — we don’t want you to buy these items, we want you to laugh at their ridiculousness. Enjoy!

My wife and I live in a rural home on a dirt road with no street lights. Most of our neighbors are “summer people,” meaning their houses are empty for eight or nine months out of the year. All this to say that, when the sun goes down, it gets dark. This can make it difficult to, among other things, find the bathroom at night. Fortunately, Jonny Glow is prepared to light the way!

Meant to “help you see where you are going,” Jonny Glow adheres to the inside of the bowl and is powerful enough to “glow all night.” You can buy one or even a five-pack if you’ve got a large home with several bathrooms. Sure, you could simply install a nightlight or just turn on a light, but whatever. Plus, I bet it really freaks out the cat.

Of course, if you’re the DIY type you easily make your own! Buy a roll of glowing tape, as is often used in theaters, and save a few bucks. Plus, 30 feet of tape should let you do just about every toilet, kitty litter box, doggie door in the house.

I would have LOVED this product for the outhouse at our childhood cottage. Although we did take a flashlight with us at night it would have been nice to see the greenish glow – and maybe it would have kept the porcupines away.

I also live in the “dark” country. Ever just think about turning on a light?? Works very well for me. For power outages, keep a flashlight by your bedside.

I got quite the kick out of this. Now, we live in a nice rural neighborhood with back neighbors who have huge flood lights that kick on each night about sundown. So, dark isn’t a huge problem. But when you have a child who will get up in the dark to go pee, and can’t reach the light switch without help, and is too clumsy and sleepy to use a step stool, I can see the advantage of glow tape there. I can imagine the struggle to clean it, though. Yeah, nightlight it is — one that is no where near the stream. (keep in mind that for some turning the light in the middle of the night can make it such that they can’t get back to sleep. or they might not want to wake the other person in the room — bathrooms do often connect directly to rooms. Plenty of good reasons to not want to turn on a light.)

    I know it’s a joke – but I kind of LOVE that!

Too gloomy, with corners turned down. I want one that smiles at me through the darkness.

I actually like of like this! Sometimes I just don’t want to turn on a harsh light when I need to get up in the middle of the night (or wake up the child/cats/etc). It reminds me of the bits of glow-in-the-dark stars and what not I have scattered around the house. It makes it easier to navigate and keeps me from knocking lamps over, etc. when I have to walk through the house in the dark. This would be like runway strips! haha.
But the cleaning of it might be a little daunting, so maybe not.
