Workspace of the Week: Glorious green

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Substrata Studio’s wonderful workspace:

I like this desk setup because it has ample storage, a significant amount of clear work surface where Substrata can spread out materials if necessary, and that the area under the monitor is used for things he regularly needs. I also love the happy green walls, which are an uncommon color for an office. Be sure to check out other images in the Flickr pool (an alternate standing desk! a listening station!). Thank you, Substrata, for submitting your workspace to our collection.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

I like this too. As an accountant, I always have “workpapers” spread all over my desk and need the extra space. I would probably not have the plant there, but I like the plant.

Ok, here is a dumb question, what app or setting gets the clock to show like that?

i love that idea of workspace photos, but the ones I’ve seen so far (and I did make an effort to browse through the category) do not really convince me. somehow I imagine they’ve all been cleaned up extra tidely for the photo. I’d love to see some pics here of workspaces with people actually WORKING at them!

I believe that screensaver is Fliqlo –

Mine is about the same, plus a box of kleenex and several tubes of hand lotion and antibacterial wipes on upper left corner. No plants or vases. I use small tablet to take down notes or information while online or on the phone.

About the clock: I don’t know about windows machines, but for macs, you can also set it to run on top of your usual screensaver. It’s a smaller clock, but it’s still visible across a medium-to-large room, and it saves you cluttering up your hard drive with yet another thing.

Just go to System Preferences > Desktop & Screensavers > Screensaver Tab, then tick the box that says ‘show with clock’, bottom left just underneath the menu showing the names of all the different screensavers

(the above is for Snow Leopard, aka mac os 10.6; a different version may be elsewhere, if it is, do post it 🙂

Great workspace, the green is wonderful. We’re getting ready to paint our office a similar color.

This is beautiful, and I love all the Sci-Fi posters! It looks clean, sophisticated, and yet we still see an injection of the owner’s personality. I personally prefer seeing pictures with the workspace all cleaned up and tidy; I like the inspirational/aspirational nature of these–we all know offices and desk get messy from time to time!

I’ve been reading this site for several years now but never commented (I’m a bit shy that way). I had to pipe up, though, and say that this office photo, with its clear surfaces and lovely clean organization, provided the kick in the pants I needed to FINALLY clear the backlog of papers all over my home office. It was a nice weekend project, a fun trip down memory lane (really!) and a huge relief. My office looks totally different now and is a real pleasure to work in, instead of a source of stress. Thanks, Substrata and Erin!

    Love this set up.

Is there any way to contact the ownew and find out where to procure that desk?

    Hi all,

Thanks for all of the comments about my workspace.

The clock screensaver is in fact “Fliqlo”.

@Daniel: The desk is the “Galant” series from Ikea.
