Workspace of the Week: Bed above, desk below

This week’s Workspace of the Week is JoelVardy’s 9.5′ x 9.5′ bedroom office:

With college students around the globe getting ready to head back to dorm rooms the size of shoe boxes, I thought it was a good idea to feature JoelVardy’s terrific workspace. The lofted bed and desk he built himself, and details about its construction are on his website. He’s using a Kawasaki Paddock Chair, which I’d never seen before but that looks incredibly comfortable. Thank you, JoelVardy, for submitting your office to our Flickr pool.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer Flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

Ingenious, and the construction looks very well done! I love the built-in lights especially. And the chair looks great, though I’m not entirely sure how comfortable it would be.

For a small space, this looks wonderful. Though I’ll always shy away from setups like this — they feel too boxed-in and claustrophobic for me.

The kid should looking into buying Harmony universal remote, instead of keeping those 3 on his desk…

@John Galt — He’s not in the US. The Harmony charger might not be compatible with his electrical system.

Good thing Logitech is a Swiss company who also make their products for the UK as well as the US then…

I did a very similar thing to this back in my undergraduate days, although on a quality scale of 1-This, I was somewhere around -2. After about the 900th time of railing my head while standing up, I scrapped the whole idea – my brain just wouldn’t learn!

Wow! Impressive! I wish I could have lived so simply during my college years!

I love the design and the racing seat chair because I’m a big gearhead, too.

A very nice and elegeant solution for a cramped dorm room and I’m sure that racing chair is great for playing Gran Turismo and Forza.
