A note on the double boiler – I’ve always used a small saucepan with a metal bowl set on top. No special equipment needed.

Agreed. I love making French pastries/desserts (and the French double-boil everything!), and yet I’ve never felt the need for a specialized gadget — the metal bowl in a saucepan works just fine. I always thought the “bulky double boilers” were yet another useless kitchen unitasker. I never imagined them being the norm…

I’m surprised how many negative comments the “Table in a box” post got, especially the “who wants an ugly old cube sitting around” variety? I guess I just like clean lines and geometrical shapes, because my first reaction was, “COOL!!!” 😉 I have a galley kitchen, and the “cube” would look like a food-prep block when put together, then open up for dining when soup’s on.

I’d want it in white rather than woodgrain finish, and the points about the weird two-level seats are well-taken, but on the whole, I love the basic concept. Someone in the U.S. tweak this for comfort and sell it here!
