Workspace of the Week: Parent and child office

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Yellow Fence’s parent and child workspace:

This week’s selection is quite possibly one of the most adorable offices I have seen in our flickr pool. The child’s art desk along side the adult work desk is precious and functional. There are additional photos of the space that show that half of the room is dedicated to a play space. Additionally, the use of the kitchen racks keep the room well organized. Thank you, Yellow Fence, you are an office-design muse!

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

Very cute. This has some personality. Love the colored folders and cups and the letters spelling out “Create.”

Wonder what it looks like when the area’s actually in use?

I like how the desk and the floor are the same colour and there’s no stark contrast. Very nice!

Thanks for featuring us as the workplace of the week. I just posted a how-o on the kids art center here –

Cute, but there’s now way I’d be able to get any work done if we were both in there at the same time. 🙂

wow – are there children who are naturally neat and organized?

This is what Queen Pack Rat’s (aka dear daughter) “studio” usually looks like on a good day! I finally moved her into the spare room (from the kitchen nook) because I couldn’t stand it anymore.

I looked at the other photos and the toy storage bin is great! and I love the various hanging storage units for both mom and son. I may try those in my new smaller space.

Anyone know where you can buy this toy storage bin? I love it.

@Stephanie — I think she says that they’re from Ikea:

Thank you for this! I’ve been noodling ideas for transforming my teeny-tiny cluttered office into an office/playroom. I’d love to be able to keep my 18-month-old babes underfoot while I write. Great ideas!

Erin, great work space you have for yourself. Two birds with one arrow, kind of. Don’t you dash into each other all the time :). Just kidding..Looks pretty organized.
I can’t do that at my house. Whenever Joe and Jimmy, my kids, have holidays they turn my house into a mini Galaxy and keep having Sci-Fi battle with the Mad Science robots which they recently earned for themselves after getting good grades. However they feel something is missing with their Ben 10 and Mad Science armory if they don’t invade my desk.
So I have to make them play in their own bedrooms. They get the space and I get mine.
I am sure your child is a girl!

I’d do this with my 3 homeschooled kids…if I had an extra room to put it all in! 🙁

I love that (adult) desk. Is that from IKEA? Which one is it?
