I know I have too many magazines and need to cull (I've been working on it, but feel the need to at least go through and make sure there wasn't a recipe or design idea I really wanted to keep for reference). And yes, too many eye shadows! I am probably still holding onto at least 4 eye shadows in kooky colors (just in case, for Halloween) and two eye shadows for a "nighttime look" which I forget I have and just put my "daytime look" on a little heavier. Sigh.
For some reason, it's hard for me to part with all sorts of things. Toiletries I tried once and didn't care for, two jumbo boxes of tampons (different sizes)that I don't need that often, seasonal items (self-tanner, holiday-scented hand cream), jewelry I never wear, shoes that are worn but that I haven't found a comfortable replacement for....ugh. On the one hand, I would love to get rid of all my stuff that doesn't completely satisfy me from a comfort/practical/aesthetic point of view, but on the other hand, I don't have the money to just go out and buy a new cheese grater/sofa/pair of shoes that's going to satisfy me. And I know from past purchases that sometimes I *still* miss the mark and wind up buying something that I thought was going to be better, but turns out to be just as bad, if not worse, than the item I was trying to replace. For instance, my Pampered Chef cheese grater broke about 5 years ago, but is still useable; you just have to hold it awkwardly to get it to work (the plastic handle you use to press the hunk of cheese down broke at the weakest point). I decided just last year that we would just go with one of those big boxy graters where you glide the cheese across the holes. Well, the new grater creates a big mess every time I use it, and I'm always afraid I'm going to start shredding my fingers when I get down to a nub of cheese. So now we have the broken Pampered Chef cheese grater AND the boxy Kitchen Aid cheese grater taking up space in our kitchen drawer! We use both, (the Pampered Chef one more often than not) but neither is the ultimate solution. I'm scared of getting burned again, as I know if I buy another Pampered Chef cheese grater (which I loved, until it broke) it will just eventually break like the last one. But I've read reviews of supposedly "stronger" brands (made of metal) and they didn't do so well, either. Hmph.
