Can you all say "paraskavedekatriaphobia"? :)

I have no idea where this belief comes from.
People are weird, that's all. :-)
Not sure. Wikipedia lists some intersting theories: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th
Friday is unlucky. 13 is unlucky. Therefore, Friday the 13th must be doubly unlucky?
All I know is, the girls working at Subway when I got my breakfast this morning were very anxious about it. Everyone caled them silly for it, but they were genuinely distressed. The power of self-suggestion is a little scary sometimes.
I always figured that since I was born on a 13th I was immune. And I own two black cats so I'm immune to that black cat = bad luck thing too.
Still avoid walking under ladders though ;)
Somehow I find superstitions charming (ha ha oh I crack myself up) but that is probably because I'm not superstitious, and I only learned about them in school; they were not at all thought about or mentioned in our home growing up. I also love the idea of ghosts, although I don't believe they exist.
For some people superstitions can have real power. It is amazing how the brain works.
O I take it back! I do have a superstition-- I always pick up a penny if I see one on the ground and I think of that rhyme: " find a penny/pick it up/all the day you'll have good luck". And if there's no good luck for me? well hey, I got me a shiny new penny!
The Knights Templar were destroyed on Friday October 13th, 1307. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Templar
So 700+ years later we're still worrying about it? Eek.
@djk-my husband is very superstitious about picking up money. He'll *always* (yuck) pick up money because he's afraid that if he ever leaves money on the ground it will be the last time he'll ever have the opportunity to find money. Strange isn't it?
I admit I'm a tad superstitious about numbers...
3 = protection
5 = change
9 = good fortune
I don't mind 13 one way or the other. But what gets me is that for some reason the number 17 is bad luck in Italy, and whenever I've asked any Italians why, they laugh and change the subject. :-/
I thought the topic question was referring to clutter, as in: Where does all the clutter come from? I was intrigued because I often ponder that very question!
@Magpie: I'm not sure about all kinds of clutter, but I do know that tupperware breed in closed cupboards ;)
@Magpie: i thought the same thing when i saw the title of thread.
remided me of: "calories : they cause your clothes to shrink in your closet making them superfluous after some time"
I think clutter breeds like mold when your back is turned!
@needtocleanhouse: I'd always heard that Jesus was crucified on a Friday, the 13th; I have no idea where that came from.
And yes, I thought this thread was about clutter, too.
Where does it all come from and how can I keep it outta my house? ;-)
I don't know about Friday the 13th, but the answer to where clutter comes from can be rather simple. The door. Plug the door, people! One in one out is a revolving door, one in two out an even better door.
lol, nina!
I have to keep reminding myself that all this stuff didn't walk in here by itself.
