I like Evernote because I can capture data on my phone, my desktop, or any web browser, and it all stays in one place. I can also take a picture of a page of handwritten notes, and it will make the text searchable.

I use evernote only for things that need to be synced or either captured or accessed on the go. Everything else goes into Journler(as long as it will work). It has internal links and pdf indexing. And i have found it to be very data format tolerant.

I just use One Note, because it came with my Office ensemble, and I don't want to pay for anything else.

Just found RememberTheMilk.com, and fell in love with it! That syncs to Gmail and my phone, so my to do list and stuff to remember all gets caught up in one place - no more killing trees with all of my post-it notes! And a few less office supplies to take up space. :)

Remember the Milk is my favorite to-do list for exactly the reasons you stated, Steph. I pretty much keep Gmail open all the time, so it's always there for me to add new items or check them off. Their iPhone app is convenient too.

I've been using RememberTheMilk (RTM) for a couple of years and have integrated that into my GTD system. It's a great, handy app.

I was using Clipperz to manage and generate web passwords and credit card details, but I can't always access it from work. KeePass is a little app that I can use to store the same info, and by keeping the password database file in my DropBox I can use it from home and work.

I use evernote for projects where the information is large and complicated and needs to be indexed.

I have been using Azzcardfile since 2000, for everyday things information i need to look up constantly like phones and addresses, ..the prices of things, bank card numbers, library book lists, dvds i want to buy. granted it doesn't feed to my phone..yet..but it's a tiny and flexible database with lots of yummy tools. I have one that's just recipes.

I use a combination of OmniFocus and Yojimbo. I use the same tools at home and work, and like the way these sync easily between computers (also creating a backup). I use OmniFocus for to-dos and Yojmbo for various jotting down various notes (cocktail recipes, agendas, fantasy kayak trips), keeping track of passwords, and as a place to keep receipts. Oh, and I use delicious to keep track of bookmarks, I guess that's another.

I use OmniFocus on my phone as a way to quick capture to dos that pop into my head and put them in my inbox to process later. Less 'metal clutter' that way. I do wish Yojimbo synched with my iPhone sometimes, but don't honestly miss it much there.

I use "Things" for Mac and iPhone. It's a really well made application. They sync together and provides just what I need.

Ok I have used Remember the Milk and am learning Evernote. How about Google calendar? If one always/usually has Gmail open, why not use that calendar? I have tried both Google calendar and RTM and am currently leaning toward Google.

I am still struggling with deciding! I do use Google Calendar because it has become the most convenient way for my husband and I to keep track of each other's schedules from anywhere, plus I like how it syncs with the calendar on my iPod touch, allowing me to use it as a PDA wherever I go, even without a wifi connection. So, that much has been settled, but I don't like Google Tasks.

I like Evernote, especially since I can use my phone to text both photos and text messages, so I can capture info wherever I am, and organize it from any PC, and view it from my iPod touch. However, I am just not very good at keeping it up to date and reviewing it on a regular basis. I am trying to figure out why -- is it because I need to just enforce a time each day to review my backlog of tasks and info in Evernote, or is it because it's overly complicated?

I love this topic. I think the reason I have such a hard time selecting just one of these info managers (Evernote, RTM, HipsterPDA, etc.), is that I want a combination of electronic and paper. I don't have a personal iPhone or Blackberry; just a regular phone without a keyboard, so it's not too easy to input data when I'm on the go. However, I do have a Blackberry for work. I've been putting all my reminders in Outlook at the office and synching with my work Blackberry. That's good for remembering appointments because they pop up on the BBerry. But it's not good for quick notes, to do lists, and all the other lists that seem like I'd want them to be handy EVERYwhere. I'm thinking of gift idea lists; grocery list; to do list; books to read; as well as notes that I take when I get direction from the boss or when I'm in a meeting. The to do list might have a short version of a task, but the notes might have more detail.

I think I like the idea of a netbook, but it's really too small to be comfortable and too big to carry around in my pocket. I'm not fond of carrying a purse, either.

So, after all that, how do you ACTUALLY use these things? Do you carry paper with you all the time to write stuff down, then input it when you get to a computer, then reference it from a PDA or cell phone (or print stuff out and carry the info with you; updating it when you're at the computer)?

And then, how do you sync? I want to be in the cloud, but I feel like I'm just storing a lot of junk and it's still impossible to remember and find info when and where I want/need it.

I've heard about OneNote, and I have a laptop running Vista, but I don't know where to find OneNote to try it out. Any hints?

It's a part of Microsoft Office, but if you download a 60-day trial of Office Professional, you should be able to try out OneNote. Still not sure how I feel about it ... I've been contemplating using it at work since we all have it and many of my coworkers use it. There are so many tabs and ways to organize information that I get information overload just looking at the sample info they have prepopulated into it!

S - RTM is cool because even with my phone that doesn't have a very good mobile web service (ie, I don't have a smart phone of any sort), I can still text message stuff to myself. They give you an email address for your account (that you email stuff to, not that you have to check), so I text message the reminder to my email. They have a short list of certain ways you type things in so it automatically goes to a certain list (ie, shopping vs. personal vs. school vs. work, etc), what date/time it's due, any tags you want to put, etc. And then it text messages me a list everyday at a time of my choosing to tell me what's up for the day.

The idea being to try to unclutter one's life, I use pen and paper. No need for another thing, a PDA. I have a cell phone, but it's a pretty simple one, nothing like an iPhone, and I don't use it much. It's rarely turned on — if anyone can reach you any time that's clutter in your life. I am retired, but when I worked and was heavily into volunteer activities I still used only pen and paper.

Evernote on my iphone and MacBook Pro. Super easy to use and the search function is amazing.

I use Google tasks for things to do beyond today, sort of as a master list, and I've used a pocket sized planner from the National Geographic for a long time as an actual to-do daily list, plus I use Google calendar. If I have something more complicated to track, I'll make a separate project outline, most likely in Google docs.

I have a Moleskine weekly notebook and a pen. My Moleskine has a weekly planner on the left-hand page and a ruled "notes" page on the right. Appointments go in the planner side, lists on the other. Anything else goes on sticky notes that I can move as I see fit. The Moleskine has a pocket inside the back cover for storing sticky notes, business cards, prescriptions, receipts, or any other scrap of paper I need to keep on me. It also has a tabbed notebook where I scribble random ideas, keep a record of certain things, make longer term lists etc.

    See it here: http://www.moleskine.com/catalogue/diariesplanners/12_month_weekly_notebook/12_months__weekly_notebook__red_hard_cover__large.php

Not exactly high tech, but I prefer it to any digital method I've tried so far.

Since I'm in front of a computer all the time I use iCal and DocuWiki. I'll probably implement or invent a calendar plugin for the wiki soon.
