So far ... I purchased a coffee cake recipe book for 1 cent :)

A bottle of ridiculously expensive champagne. I have wanted this for the past... maybe 7-8 years, since I first tasted it, and now I have decided to spend my christmas money on it.
I will also give myself the gift of a one-week holiday away from work. I will stay at home, just doing whatever I want, but the important thing is that I will have no work-related stress during this time. I'm quite simply "closing down business" for a week.

For the new year, I might give myself a month-to-month subscription to The New Yorker, which is published weekly. But only if I think I can handle having a weekly magazine coming in without letting issues pile up and up and UP. I'm still not sure I can trust myself. But I could cancel the monthly subscription if I need an emergency escape hatch. I'm wary of buying myself any gifts that might contribute to the clutter problem.

i got myself a candy mold for making maple candy in. Just gave away my first fancy-shaped toffee gift :)

i'm giving myself a road trip in january.
and a glazed ham with vintage champagne on christmas day.o and we bought a t-box this week.
it is a box that hooks up to tv and internet and we can rent movies and record shows through it.
i am thrilled....the ads drive me insane and now i can skip them.
and i will also be releasing some dvds back into the wild.
access is more precious to me than ownership and i am prepared to pay a little for that.Posted 5 months ago # -
Well, I want to give the house a drop-dead-gorgeous electric fireplace insert with realistic artificial flames, to be installed in the corner of the living room... But that isn't really for *me*.
I have been thinking about renting a French horn and springing for a few beginners' lessons, to see if I like it or not. Either I'll love it and keep going, or I'll get it out of my system once and for all.

My DH played the French horn in high school/college, mostly marching band. He occasionally talks about taking it up again. What he'd really like to have is a slide trombone.
I already gave myself a present - a new laptop! I love it! And here I sit typing on my ipad - it "lives" in the kitchen where I can look stuff up, read recipes, etc.

I was going to get a viola, but got saddled with a second car payment instead :( Maybe for my birthday instead!

I bought an espresso machine. It came with a $20 rebate which just about paid for the first shipment of ESE pods. Now on a snowy day, I will have my afternoon espresso in front of a fire. Love it.

i give myself the gift of being at home for 2 weeks, without any business related work to do.
i am looking forward to sitting in front of the fire and maybe fixing some things that need a lot of time and patience, like sewing.Posted 5 months ago # -
No money for gifts as such, but I think I'm going to buy some cloth to sew an at-home robe. Now that I'm living with two guys I feel shy about sitting around in my nightgown.

Astreja, I played French horn in high school. Make sure you give yourself enough time to get lip positioning right: it can be frustrating at first. Good luck with it!
I bought myself a little stainless candle snuffer. There really isn't anything else I want.

Tickets to 2 comedy-cabaret shows, and probably a new bed frame with electronic raising contraption since the old one (20 years old) gave up the ghost or got zapped by power surge.
Just have to figure out if i will buy the frame before or after 31st. Prices do go down in January...

As I'll be working pretty much every day but x-mas (new at work, no holiday days to take out) I gave myself an early x-mas pressie. This Thursday I'm flying back to visit Dublin! Yay. (flights are about €75 return so not too expensive) I used to live there for three years but haven't been since I moved out of my gorgeous penthouse apartment. Meeting old friends and just walking around the city again. Feeling quite nostalgic. :)
AND... Added bonus: Can finally withdraw the tax money sitting in my Irish account and then close the account. Yay "free" money.
(Added bonus 2: Meeting up with an old fling Friday. ;))
I'm a very happy girl at the moment. Hehe.

while working yesterday in the early evening, we had a lovely storm AND the first of the season's power cuts.
out came the generator, and a tangle of extension cords , power boards, candles, and rechargeable-battery-run-lamps.
we got the production session finished but it was way too difficult and dangerous, dancing over and under electrical cords.
i am calling an electrician today to set up something whereby we can simply plug the generator in and everything switches over automagically.Posted 5 months ago # -
"automagically" - I love it!
We had several mini-outages over the weekend as we had another go-round of high winds, rain and finally 3" of snow (to replace all that the rain melted I guess). Many, many Alaskans have generators, many wired to switch over. We have never felt the need, though I understand that with you running a business it is necessary. :) We have a woodstove, several oil lamps, and a propane heater for the basement. Our stove is gas, and we can light the burners, though not the oven, and we have a propane grill (currently covered in snow, but that's easily removed).
Swede - I can see you grinning from here! Have fun!

I'm debating gifting myself a haircut. Haven't had one since April, and my long, heavy hair is starting to get on my nerves. When you can feel your hair wheighing you down, it's probably time to unclutter some of it.

Dh asked what I wanted and I said a shoe cupboard. I have one picked out at an antique shop which is en route (the long route) to uni, but I have been too busy rushing there or back to actually buy it. Hopefully it hasn't sold, otherwise I will look for something before or after Christmas of the same size. I was thinking about buying something online but the colour thing is tricky, I want something similar to the dining table in colour, otherwise it will look odd. So I have to go to a real shop with a tape measure :)

I am giving myself a day out of town with DH on the 23rd. We were intending to go to Santa Barbara yesterday but both had way too much on our plates to manage it. So ... it WILL happen.
@Zora: are your two new guys the rent-paying sort of housemates? I hope so and I hope they are nice tidy fellows!

electrician is booked for jan 3.
delirious with joyful anticipation!anita, i loathe the feeling of my hair when i go too long between haircuts.
