I had planned to take today, Saturday, as a day of rest after and extremely busy week. It's not over yet because tomorrow I have another gig (I am not complaining because gigs are an endangered species.) But instead of resting, I wandered restlessly around the house noticing things I could get rid of. I have a few staging areas containing different categories of clutter on its way out:
    1) Odds and ends on the carpet of my crafts/guest room that I have not decided what to do with yet
    2) A large basket of small knickknacks and costume jewelry plus two mirrors which will go to the American Cancer Society Thrift Store next week
    3) 3 or 4 bags of housewares and clothing which will go to Goodwill (I got BF to part with a jacket and an overcoat he no longer wears, and I am giving away my second puffy down jacket--I only need one!)
    4) Papers to be sorted through and filed in the inbox on my desk. I will undoubtedly recycle or shred many of them.

It's a great feeling! I am sitting in bed now at 9:30, exhausted, with BF tapping on his laptop next to me. I'm finally resting and all is right with the world!

Today I took about 20 books, 8 old cassette tapes, and 6 old movies to Books for Half (and only bought 1 book and 3 DVDs on sale!). Threw out an old tee-shirt I love but that is worn out.

Today I made up a bag for Goodwill with two books and a pair of capri pants that don't fit well. I listed a bunch of CDs on ebay and hope that they sell!

i took a stack of magazines and a half dozen books listed them only for sale, and moved them from the house to workshop. 6 months online and then out they go.

I took an inventory of towels and blankets and made a stack of the ones that I could live without and will take them either to the veterinarian's office or the animal shelter. This will be the 2nd (or 3rd, maybe) delivery. There's something about towels--I've hated to toss them!

cleaned out "my favorts" on the comp. most of them I never used more then once or twice. Rehomed a kitten, detrashed the laundry room. Amazing the things kept 'cause some unknown person might whant it. (off to the free clothing bank) It's in the AM and I'm on a roll.

Nothing yet, but I'm going to go under all the cabinets and throw out anything that isn't sure to be used in the next two weeks. I don't even know what is down there, but I bet there are at least a dozen unopened bottles of cleaning products I've totally forgotten about.

Four boxes to Half Price Books on Friday and three to Goodwill on Saturday! Today I'm at work but I'm hoping for a Craigslist sale to get rid of a piece of furniture.

I was so productive this weekend! I helped my 7-yo clean out her room (we're remodeling it), and we got rid of quite a lot of her old artwork, old school books, and books and videos she's outgrown. Then I moved on to the spare room in our basement (originally set up as a guestroom, somehow it got turned into a junk room). I tossed old papers, posters, boxes from a move (that were nearly empty and had nothing of value in them), another set of old video tapes, a broken lamp, a box of baby supplies (my youngest is now 7!), and miscellaneous plastic boxes and tops - none of which matched/fit. I swept out the room, cleaned the spare bathroom, and left only my dh's stereo and a microwave oven in there. I'm trying to persuade dh to ditch the old stereo and set up the microwave so it can be used (right now it's just sitting on the floor). I feel SO good at having finally tackled that room!! Now I want to set it up again as a guest room/office and rearrange the main room for better use. I also want to remodel (new flooring, new paint, new bathroom tile and fixtures). Goals!

Oh dear. I got rid of a kitchen timer (my phone has one that is more accurate); eight metal pet vaccination tags for dear dogs that have been dead for decades; a bunch of wine glasses; a box of decorative soaps; spices from the last century; a scented candle (I am not a fan...it was a gift); and, three books. Oh, yes, and about 50 keys that have been collecting in the junk drawer.

mskris, you were a Tasmanian Devil like me! Only better!! :-)

I reorganized, purged, and relocated my collection of Star Trek fiction this weekend ... three bags of books are ready to take to my library, and the "keepers" are neatly stashed in the least-accessible cabinets in my kitchen.

Tidied up my garden shed. Big ceramic planter into the Goodwill stash, three cheap old plastic planters into the trash.

Reorganized, purged, and relocated DVDs. A bag of those ready for the library, all the others into the jukebox and two trash bags full of cases into the garbage.

Trying to get housekeeping/recordkeeping chores off my to-do list so I can feel free to address the FUN projects sitting there!

Yesterday, I got rid of a 3" tall pewter hydra! Today the rest of the collection, once loved but now just clutter, goes out the door.

So far today, only paper (recycling). But I'm getting ready to tackle my closet again tonight, and tomorrow I'm going to do the closet in the furnace room. I find myself actually looking forward all week to getting to my purging chores!! There are days when I don't have a lot to do at the office that I wish I were home so I could do more!!

I haven't got rid of them yet but I just posted them on Freecycle: my old CRT TV and DVD player. I never use them. My flatscreen computer monitor is bigger than the TV, and I watch DVDs and Netflix streaming on the computer.

Imagine getting rid of your TV.

Dinette set - finally gone! Is it just me, or do people get pickier as the price falls? I finally sold a decent quality dinette set ($400 new) for $50, and it took 5 missed pickups to do it.

DVD player has been picked up.

I also decluttered the refrigerator. My houseguest left behind vegetables and a couple of frozen chicken breasts. Everything except the cabbage has been chopped up, sauteed, and turned into a big pot of chicken vegetable soup (now simmering on the stove).

Now the TV is gone too. My next-door neighbor said she could use it. When her husband gets home from work, he takes over the big-screen TV in the living room to watch Spanish language programming. She doesn't speak Spanish. She's going to watch Vietnamese tapes and DVDs in the bedroom, she says.

It's a surprising relief to get rid of that huge, heavy CRT TV.

    Zora,
Congrats on getting rid of the TV. I haven't had one for at least five years. I do watch DVDs on my computer. It is a laptop and I find the smaller screen to be just fine. Not so intrusive or loud. Funny thing though, I don't watch movies but I do rent seasons of televison shows. Go figure. No TV but watching TV just the same. I love the British mysteries.

I don't get the chance to do much decluttering during the week, so weekends I get a little crazy (devil-like)! This past week I was sick in bed for 2 days, so I didn't get as much done on the weekend as I'd have liked, because I took naps, trying to fully recover before the next work week started.

I did go through my closet again and got rid of about 10-12 items and 2 pr shoes. I also moved things around so I can better see what I have and wear it. I'll cull again when the season changes and get rid of anything I haven't worn by then. I did recycle junk mail/paper from the kitchen (a continuous process) and shredded a month's worth of old bills. That's about it. I had to save my purging of the basement closet for next week, but it's on the list!

I bought one thing - a photo frame (50% off) for the gorgeous photos my kids' camp counselors took this summer - they came out great for each kid!
