I learned that giving something to good will feels great!
I learned that throwing away clothes that don't fit and you don't like leaves you feeling AWESOME about the stuff you have left (and makes you feel less worried when you go to the closet).
I learned why I never liked taking the babies to the shops for the 'fortnightly big shop' because baby #2 was screaming and I only got half way through my list before I decided I'd had enough people ask him if I'd pinched him.
I learned that doing housework feels good and you can do it all day (if you don't stop!)
I learned baby #2 learned how to crawl this week (the first week I returned to work for 3 years) and I didn't feel as bad as I thought I would that I missed it because I saw it for myself before anyone told me.

- As I was adding the contacts to my new phone, I learned who’s numbers I really need in there and who I have never even called before. I cleaned up my contact list and it’s amazing how much easier and time saving it is to not have to scroll through 30 people to get the number you want.
-I learned that our new kitten is a MOUSE KILLING MACHINE YEAH!

That my 5 year old reversible comforter doesn't look so bad on the ivory/tan side (the side I've never used before). In fact, it looks pretty darn elegant.

That our old air conditioner, which we had to drag up from the basement because the heat and humidity are unbearable, still works if you use a pliers to turn the shaft of the missing plastic knob. Another AC unit saved from a landfill!

That an awful lot of our clutter is tied to two things: our cats and the party we throw every March.

that if I catch myself in the right mood I can easily declutter something which was problematic on a previous round. And that I have never ever missed something I have removed from my home, with the exception of something that was loved hard and finally wore out.

I learned not to cast pearls before swine.

i learned...again....that for daily living, i vastly prefer asian food to french food.
i learned ...again....that i cherish large, high-ceilinged rooms with very little in them.
i learned...again....that i love heat and humidity. i feel better in it.
i learned.....again....that more than five weeks for a holiday is not a good idea for us.

that in 3 and a half hours I can pretty much get rid of all the major rubbish from my spare bedroom aka dumping ground. I KNOW that with a few more hours I can get the room finished. I just need to keep the momentum.

I already “knew” this, but finally accepted that I can’t sell an unwanted item for what I paid for. Or even close. So I learned that it’s better to sell it for what I can get, or donate it. Letting it rot there and taking up space just because “I don’t want to lose money from it” gets me $0. Donating or selling gets at least some kind of return from the mistake. :)

I've learned, yet again, that routine leads to rut and comfort leads to stagnation. Even thinking of something new clears out the cobwebs in my mind, and going outside of my comfort zone is like a refreshing brain flush.
Weekend trip coming up, followed by another weekend trip in 2 weeks. Rut be gone!

Anita, isn't is amazing what an upcoming trip can do for motivation? I also am anticipating two trips (one to Madrid with my DH, another to the Amalfi coast with a girlfriend) and this has pushed me to get things done and put things in order like nothing else can. So I am doing my best to "make hay while the sun shines" and clear, clean, freshen, and replace where necessary.
Have a great time on your time away!

That my mother, who keeps everything, threw away all film negatives because 'somebody told her to get rid of those'. So now I will be scanning a lot of my childhood photos.

I learned that maintenance is REALLY important when it comes to gutters and rainbarrels. Yes, I have spent the morning up and down ladders with my son, cleaning mud and leaves out of gutters, relocating a barrel after washing it first, and pruning a lot of overhanging branches. I stink. So did the barrel. It's clean now, but I'm not.

I learned that IKEA is a very, very dangerous place....but I kept my mental picture of my lovely, sparsely furnished and uncluttered future apartment in mind, and only bought the things on my list that I truly needed and wanted.

I learned that trying a new hair-do at 5am in the morning will only make you late for work (cranky, hungry and in a pony-tail)
I learned that i should trust my instincts and not my husband because I almost always give the baby a bath before bed and just spent an hour trying to calm him down
I learned that I was right and being a stay at home mum wasn't easy. When hubby gets one day at home with the kids, and when I get home and ask what he fed baby (9months) he replies with "I didn't know what to feed him - you left me in a house with no food prepared for him!" Hello, wasn't that my life EVERYDAY before?Posted 1 year ago # -
i learned there really is no place like home.
therefore, it is even more deserving of my attention and care.
....................................................................................................IKEA is a really dangerous place, yes indeed.
i think everyone has done the manic over-shop there at least once.
some of us have to learn the hard way, lol.Posted 1 year ago # -
It's much easier to declutter some of my songs from iTunes than I thought. I look at the play count and most of the songs haven't even been played all the way through even once! I didn't touch the kids songs, just mine.

I learned that it is really easy to accumulate clutter from a dead relative - out of guilt. My brother died 11 years ago and I am still mired in a lot of his stuff that my mother thought I should have. This has been a huge lesson to me.
I also learned that my husband is sort of a pack-rat collector wise. That is the only trait I can see that he takes after his mother.

@djk -- agreed, entirely. I'm not going anywhere as exciting as you are, though. In fact, whis weekend the boyfriend and I are going to a smallish city not too far from where I live, to do as little as possible, for a change. Everyone who hears this usually comes back with "well, that's a perfect place to do a lot of nothing; not much else to do"... which right now is just fine with me. Walking in some new streets and taking in fresh air is currently my only ambition :)
