Oooh, this is a great post!
OUT: A giant, heavy banker's box full of magazines to a woman on freecycle who promised not to throw any of them in the garbage (recycling is ok). I decided to declare "magazine bankruptcy" on issues pre-2010 because I was way behind on my magazines. I cut out all the address labels, to prevent ID theft and also so I would have the information I need to transfer my subscriptions to someone else who will use them. I have a hard time saying no to free stuff, which led to my getting 5-10 monthly magazine subs at some points in time! :-/
PENDING: Box of clothes for goodwill, another box of misc. stuff for goodwill or freecycle.
IN: An 8gb microSD card for one of my devices. Luckily it doesn't take up much room. ;)
This is such a neat idea!!
OUT: On Saturday, I donated a lot of clothes (a big box of blouses, plus 7 skirts, 3 pant suits, 2 pairs of dress slacks, 4 dresses, and 6 matching dressy sweaters/shirts) plus a bag of purses and Bath & Body Works lotions to a local charity. I also took a large box full of old magazines and catalogs to the paper recycling bin. It felt SO GOOD to give that stuff away. It is nice to have room in my closet and it also makes me feel great to know that someone will get some good use out of it. A lot of the clothes hadn't been worn in over 5 years.....should have done this a long time ago!
PENDING: 2 boxes of t-shirts and sweatshirts for charitable donations.
IN: Weekly groceries
This post is addictive!
OUT: unopened software (eBayed for $60!), rolling walker with seat (Craigslist, $70!), necklace and earring set (donated for door prize at upcoming ABWA conference), booklet on home maintenance (never used after asking for the copy at a closing over 10 years ago!), 2 keychains
IN: Only consumable items!
The picture frames (though I was unhappy when the guy at Goodwill just put them on a pile; the glass is fragile, dangnabit!).
I managed to get rid of MOST of the clothing I'd been hoarding. All I kept were the underpants (I *am* slowly managing to lose weight, and I'll need the smaller ones eventually) and two jackets, for looking professional. As for the rest, I asked myself, "Will I feel elegant and self-assured if I wear that again?" and the answer I got was "NO". So I took them to Goodwill. I hope some shopper will cherish my handcrafted large-size clothing.
Ou today: More old uni notes (H's) and some master's phd stuff from me - Ouch! A bag for recycling
Pending: large amount of books and some bric-a-brac for the charity shop - will start a new thread mon with pics
In: the OH's old landrover ambulance, full of tools and rubbish - his baby but I hate it. Its been in storage miles away whilst we were out of the country and I didn't miss it one little bit. Oh well, The new house we are moving to, hopefully, has a garage, so at least all the rubbish won't migrate back to my undserstairs cupboard.
In yesterday - groceries, some nice face stuff (I'm a product whore) and three books.
Out: pair of new dangly earrings, donated to women's conference; wood letter sorting box (donated); three needlepoint partially started kits (donated to the crafts room at our recycle center); vintage "how to learn needlepoint" practice cards; chair, end table, floor lamp (all gifted)' T-shirt.
In: gift from hairdresser from his trip to Thailand, a teak wood box. Total surprise and unexpected!
(Technically the weekend)
OUT: Old cushion insert
IN: Acrylic stand for my Food Saver I had made, with an area beneath for the containers. New cushion insert.
Added bonus: A guest called me 'so tidy'. :D
Ooo, this is so fun! Last week,
Out: Pile of "collectables" inculding stuff like dolls, lunchbox, stickers, bath set and toys. I managed to sell them and make a little cash, but I'm more happy about dropping them off at the post office. ^_^
In: Swiss family robinson book.
Out: A paper box full of memorabilia from vacations (pounds upon pounds of brochures, maps, et cetera). Non-digital photos (finally got around to scanning them).
In: Several personal finance books, which were a gift.
Adore this thread!
Old office supplies.
This weekend my husband went through a bunch of his stuff and got rid of an entire bin that was taking up space in our closet. We also have a lot of CDs and sports memorabilia listed on ebay, so I guess that stuff is "pending".
As far as what came into our home - nothing this week!
Out 2 pair of pants for charity
books for a nursing home
6 different garments I bought from Coldwater Creek last sale , sizes are so
over the place
Out: a bunch of chatchkes (knickknacks) that I'd been dragging around and storing for many years. I threw out a bunch: the ceramic bell without a clapper, the hair (I think it was mine and my ex-husband's, but ... who needs hair?), the dried-up koosh ball, a Buddha figurine with a broken-off head, and a bunch of other stuff I've already forgotten. The things that were still good but no longer of sentimental value or any use I put in a bag to take to my Zen group; someone else may want them (a small ceramic jar, a wooden cat, a papercutter that makes little stars, and more).
To be mailed to my brother, who cares more about family history than I do: my grandfather's early 1900s Swedish-English pocket dictionary, used when he first came to the US.
Kept: an antique Persian tile, a youth drinking wine, painted with tiny, lively brushstrokes. An antique silver baby cup, to be stored with those dang antique hand-embroidered baby dresses and the batch of handmade baby quilts I discovered, tucked away in the closet.
I'm so excited!
This weekend, I had furniture taken away! Two columns that were holding up a beautiful piece of glass, the columns were tacky, they are gone! A laptop table, desk, desk chair, rug, all are gone!
Oh, and more Tupperware (if you are following along on my personal blog, http://drawerbydrawer.wordpress.com/) you know I cleaned out some food storage containers. I met a lady who just moved to Houston and gave her 8 more storage containers, as well as two crystal low ball glasses as a house warming gift. I also gave away a T-shirt. Oh, and I gave a collectible cat item to my neighbor. And a lamp base went out!
It was a very productive, uncluttering weekend!
Nothing new came in!
I had a BIG uncluttering weekend.
Out: 3 large wooden trays to my son, angel statue (has a sad face that bugs me), 4 old pieces of costume jewelry, 7 padded hangers, calculator, 2 vases, makeup bag, roll-up travel jewelry bag, 6 dinner plates I never use, 3 small glass bowls, pair of pants, 3 pair of shoes, over the door shoe holder, all to Goodwill. Old car wash and wax, 10 rail road nails my DH brought home from somewhere, lotion and hair conditioner I didn't like and a broken calculator went in the trash.
In: Absolutely nothing!
Out: Bag of clothing, books and CDs have been sent to goodwill (about kitchen bag sized..). It feels so nice!
