Sky, I agree. My mom kept only select cards and school records. I tossed any that were commercial, but kept a few of the handmade ones to show my own kids. I also keep some of my kids' artwork each year (most is framed and on display either at my home or office) because my kids are quite artistically talented, especially my son. I don't keep greeting cards or photos of scenery or people whom I don't know or can't identify.

when I helped my dad decluttering the condo after my mom passed,
this kind of thing (mine or sibs school stuff and artwork) was nowhere to be found.
I remember her saving stuff in her closet, now I'm wondering if they tossed it
when they moved to the condo?
I would liked to have seen some of my old school stuff.
i am saving a bit of school stuff of each kid, either for me or for them.
I love looking at it.Posted 10 months ago # -
I have to say, it was really cool to go through my mom's boxes of photos and see some of my grandparents (whom I never knew), in their youth and courtship! I also found photos of my father's family, whom I never met (he was raised in a foster home but knew his real mother), including my missing half-uncle. There are some strong family resemblences through the generations, which is really interesting. My eldest sister looked so much like my paternal grandmother when she was young! Photos of people I'd heard my mother speak of for years were revealing - luckily, Mom had identified many in writing on the backs of the photos.
