It seems as though a healthy side-effect of uncluttering means that we begin to consume less in general. I find that I have a tendency to have useful things repaired rather than immediately replaced, to shop less, and, in general, to be more conscious of my decisions.
Lowering consumption can be environmentally healthy (less transportation burns less fossil fuel, there is less packaging, less waste, etc. etc.)
Today I have been inspired to research how to compost indoors (no patio) as it bothers me how much compostable material we toss in our garbage. Yes, compost also will break down in a landfill, but takes transportation and adds volume and doesn't make lovely soil for my courtyard herb pots (shared "Hof" with all the tenants of the building) My thoughts on composting led to thoughts of uncluttering our chemical/environmental footprint along the way.
So some questions for my fellow unclutterers:
Do you also think about the environment when uncluttering your life? How important is it for recycling etc. to be convenient?
Have you discovered you have become more environmentally conscious through uncluttering?
Does the message we often hear, of, "reduce, reuse, recycle" have any pertinence to you? obviously, people who are interested in decluttering reduce. What about the other two, "reuse" and "recycle"?
would love to hear thoughts on this.
