chacha1: I agree, though if you're able to work in a shower at the gym at lunch time rather than in your house in the morning then that's a bonus for me: less bathroom cleaning if the shower at home is used less!
I can recommend Haruki Murakami's book 'What I talk about when I talk about running' as a very interesting and motivational book about exercising. It's a quite short, simply written memoir about his relationship to running and writing, well worth reading.

I really like the couch-to-5K (or C25K) that trillie was talking about. Actually it originates from the head of Josh Clark at Cool Running and there's a wonderful fan page for C25K with a lot of translations of the program (I did the Finnish one :) ). The goal (well for some at least, but it depends on what you start from) is to run 5 kilometers in 30 min after 9 weeks and if you stick to the program you force yourself not to do too much too soon.

the couch to 5K is an awesome podcast- actually there are a few of them- different music, some talk through the cycles, some don't talk, some just tell you when to cycle from walk to run.

I did c25k quite awhile ago, and while I cannot run due to a bad knee, I downloaded the podcasts by Robert Ullrich which are timed, and I use them to do intervals on the elliptical.
