This isn't exactly an uncluttering question per se, but I am wondering if any of you Macusers out there have installed OSX Lion? I paid and downloaded it via the Apple site, but have not yet installed it as I have read such mixed reviews. Anyone here have any experience with it and the "lovely sounding" iCloud?

i've been using it since it came out and i am very happy with it.
i had an initial drama with it and had to call support a few times....the problem was eventually identified as sophos antivirus.
i got rid of that and lion has been roaring along ever since.icloud is working perfectly for us, but i am sure i am not utilising it fully yet.
australia doesn't have the itunes part of the cloud yet, but for syncing everything else it is working fine.i use a magic trackpad with my imac and i adore the new default scrolling.
after using an ipad, it feels a lot more natural, as though you are handling an actual piece of paper.Posted 6 months ago # -
Nope. No Lion, no iCloud, no iOS upgrade. Hubby has had his iPad crash numerous times with paid apps just dying and disappearing as a result, so I am still waiting for bug fixes etc.

nina, that is so weird.
our ipads are truly stable.
i did have some trouble with a mobile chrome type app but that was all.
i deleted it and that was that.Posted 6 months ago # -
Gosh, my ipad has been perfect, not one crash in 18 months.

Omg I just "decluttered" 50 gbs of photos from my Mac and external hd.
A couple weeks ago I moved my iPhoto library to the external hd to free up some space an
do some maintenance before i used SuperDuper to copy to the hd and make a bootable copy of the OS.
Dd#5 unplugged the FW cord - that had a paper taped up it saying- do not unplug- .
I checked snd rechecked, opened and closed iPhoto on the external he many times to make sure it still worked and iPhoto would open with the 50 gbs of photos. It did just fine.
So today I decided to run super duper again to update the back up, do I plugged in the hd, it was fine, iPhoto opened great, all the photos were there, so I deleted the library from myvmacbook pro.
halfway through the back up it stops running, both the external hd images disappeared from the desktop snd the error message saying
the hd was not ejected properly... blah blah blah.
I started freaking out, but decided, they're only pictures, right? omg.
I did back them up to DVDs a while back, but oh my goodness.there will be loads missing.
this has been my one and only huge disastrous computer bummer ever in
10 years, could be worse I suppose. I'm a little surprised I'm not running through the streets screaming...Posted 6 months ago # -
Oh irishbell, I hope you can recover most of the photos!
I am a mac user, but only since a couple of weeks. I have finally upgraded to a complete mac network with time capsule and a macbook air (the smallest one). I'm very happy with it, but I don't have a lot to say about it yet when it comes to problems.

I am hoping if I take the HD in to the mac store they can recover the photos.
I could use a new wireless router and time capsule might be it, definitely will need a new external HD now, even if they can recover the photos, i will not trust this one again.Posted 6 months ago # -
Finally got the external HD to mount.
it's going agonizingly slow, and keeps freezing- but am copyinghour photos to DVDs.
hopefully I can get all 50 gb copied before the HD poops out for good.
I will ask Santa for a time capsule, shortly.Posted 6 months ago # -
What a nightmare!
There is software out there to help you. No idea what it is but I am certain I have read about it numerous times.Posted 6 months ago # -
irishbell...i have been very happy with the apple time machine.
it backs up perfectly and automatically and when i upgraded my computer last june, it installed everything on the new imac exactly as advertised.Posted 6 months ago # -
Normally my budget is excruciatingly tight but when I had to decide whether to buy a new external for backup outside of the house I did not hesitate for a second. I believe it is as important as food and rent to have proper backups, should one choose to walk the electronic path. All those hours of organizing, scanning, shredding ang recycling as well as finally maintaining are not treated with the respect they deserve if backup is unreliable, and so I find myself with one expensive 2TB time machine and two smaller, half-expensive externals. They are not luxury articles in my opinion and if I would trust the cloud a monthly fee would get the "equal to food or rent" treatment, too.

thanks for the input, i've always used and loved Apple products, never had anything else. i agree about the back up, you just never know what will happen!
i've always heard there are 2 kinds of computer users- those who have had a crash, and those that will have a crash!Posted 6 months ago #
