A taboret on wheels. Actually, I have three taborets altogether but the one I've had the longest (30 years?) has been the hardest-working multi-tasker. It has five coated wire baskets that slide out smoothly to either side and a wooden cutting-board top. Over the years, it has served (1) in the pantry as vegetable and kitchen gadgets bins; (2) in the closet as socks and underwear drawers; (3) in the hallway closet as storage for light bulbs, extension cords, and tools; and (4) currently behind sliding doors in my clothes closet as shoe holder, containing three pairs of shoes per bin. The wooden top supports a small two-shelf cabinet for folded clothes, and on top of that cabinet my two bed pillows reside during the day (my bed is another multi-tasker, being made up into a sofa during the day). The taboret's wheels operate smoothly even after all these years, and the whole unit easily rolls out to give me full access to my large walk-in closet, then rolls back in concealed behind the sliding doors.
My other two taborets are hard-workers, too. One of them (all white) rolls into the space under my bathroom sink and holds makeup, hair stuff, and supplies. This taboret was in my garage for a few years, holding tools and getting rather grungy. It cleaned up quite nicely except for damage to the top. I've affixed a bamboo tray on top, and now it looks very pretty in my bathroom.
The third taboret is a beautiful high-end dark oak piece worthy of furniture status. It usually stays in view in my studio room, with my laptop on top and its five drawers holding office supplies. Or, when I need more moving-around space, it rolls away into the other end of the clothes closet.
