A brand new series for one of the major broadcasters is focusing on the UK’s un-wavering obsession with collecting and hoarding.

Actually, there HAS been people who've posted here because they've recently realized that the amount of stuff they own is more than they can or want to handle, up to and including people who have come to describe themselves as hoarders. Some of them are actually even quite desperate about the state of their home/possessions and would love some help, even if getting this help requires going through a TV show with all the potential for embarrassment this engenders. So while they may be even better websites out there to post such an ad, this one is by no means a bad choice in my book :-)

What surprises me rather more is the way the words 'hoarder' and 'collector' are used interchangeably, when to me there is a very clear distinction. In fact, the word 'hoarder' is used a bit too lightly, I think, even for people who are no more than a bit messy. But that's a discussion for another post ;-)

This doesn't exist.
There are many things that unite Brits
- queueing
- weather obsession

but an uwavering obsession with collecting and hoarding. On behalf of Brits everywhere I would like to point out that I do not think this is an accurate statement.

You are right Mili. I suppose I thought of people here wanting to change their hoarding situation, but there may be some who would benefit from the program. I have seen trailers for a show like this but I have not watched them because it seems disrespectful to treat people like curiosities. They are likely to be in a terrible situation and I just don't feel that this is entertainment.

576 @ I do not think people in the UK seem obsessed with collecting and hoarding. Maybe they were thinking about the stately homes with all the antiques. I love that people in the UK queue. When I was in Scotland, a ferry was delayed by a couple of hours and a long queue had formed. There were no complaints, just a philosophical approach that these things happen, that the workers were doing their best to fix the problem....I think it is one of the great aspects of your national character.

Producers contact me all the time about looking for people to be on their shows or in their documentaries regarding clutter and home makeovers. A lot of people lurk in the forums but don't post (you would be surprised, it's multiple times more lurkers than posters). So, I've started suggesting producers post here to see if someone might be interested in appearing (I'm not, but maybe someone is ...) since I don't usually post about their requests on Unclutterer (I've done it for Oprah because, well, OPRAH!). This is the first show that has actually taken me up on the offer and posted, though.
