FSA, so sorry to hear of your loss. My dh was laid off a year ago and has only succeeded in finding part-time work, although he opened his own business and has had a few small jobs (he's an architect). I've always been the family breadwinner, but it's still frustrating and depressing.
Global warming is fact! My brother lives in Alaska. I visited the Exit glacier in 1992 and have photos of us standing on it. I took my son back in 2006 and you couldn't even get near the glacier - it was much diminished, and roped off due to the melting/falling ice. I couldn't believe such a difference in such a short time!
We need to change our ways now, or my kids will be facing major hardships. I do my best to reuse/recycle and not to waste energy. I just bought a hybrid car to replace a gas-guzzling SUV. I'd love to switch our home from oil heat, but we have no local gas lines and propane is just as bad...
Best of luck in finding a new job soon. I was laid off back in 1993 and it was the best thing that happened - I got a better job that allowed me to work from home full-time while my kids were little. Maybe it's time for a career change? One of the things that helped me most was to realize that my job didn't define who I am...I bring success TO what I do, success doesn't come from the job. Stay positive and you'll get there.
