So, terriok, do you have a blog? You like to write, and you write interesting things. If you don't have a blog, you need to start one! :)

Thanks for the link, terriok! I taught elementary school, mostly 4th and 5th, but I have taught other grades, too.

I taught pre-k through fifth but mostly third (bilingual)- my favorite grade. I enjoyed the fourth graders but whoa! fifth graders!!!

I like to prioritize my list and try to do the most difficult and important stuff first, but I agree, sometimes it is just important to make progress and get rolling, so sometimes the easiest stuff will get done first.
I try to put the "people" items at the top of the list: making doctor appointments, calling friends, arranging get-togethers. If I take care of the people in my life, the rest will follow.

A quote from Mark Twain always comes to mind when I have things to do that I don't want to do:
"If you eat a frog first thing in the morning, the rest of your day will be wonderful."

An old boss made me keep an ongoing task list - muh more than 15 items! - and its a good habit to get into. However she'd check my list every night, say which she wanted done as a priority, and I'd get in before her in the morning to start. Then when she'd arrived she'd ask me why something else on the list hadn't been done instead. Grrrr.
I have used that habit in jobs since though - very handy to have a pad of scrap paper on my desk especially to note down small but important tasks that might get lost otherwise.

badkitti - who actually physically wrote the priority that she decided? It sounds like what you needed was for her to write the priority in her own handwriting so you could say, "because this is what you asked for".

I'm not too big on lists for small, everyday things, because they rarely stray from the norm. And also the procrastination thing affects me BIG TIME.
But, I've got a project at home coming up that will need a pretty detailed list: I'll be pulling up my gross carpet and putting down laminate wood floors in about month!!! I'm so excited. I've got to make a list of what needs to be done when, what needs to be bought (even though I already know), and when things are packed, where they're going. Some big things are going to my parents house, so I need to include when those items need to be moved on my list. I hope to start on my lists this weekend. Not procrastinating at the moment, it's just going to be a busy week, and over the weekend I think I'll have time to sit down and focus.

Home improvements DEFINITELY require lists! Otherwise you find yourself making five increasingly-annoyed trips to the hardware store.
Poodle, you are going to love having that carpet out of there. I am envious.

My parents have hard wood floors in their house, so growing up that's all I knew. When I bought my house 7 years ago, I was excited about the carpet because I had never had it before. I don't know how old it is. I've been there for 7 years, the people before me 5 years, and the original owners moved in the early 1960's. Thankfully, the carpet isn't shag - it never would have lasted past signing the papers! It was probably put down in the mid 90's. The previous owners had a 5 year old boy, and I have a dog. So it's definitely time to get rid of it. Sometimes it feels like new stains appear overnight.
