We have a still working freezer plus a brand new freezer. What is the best way to pass along / give away the still working freezer?

You might want to check with your Hydro company if they have a recycling program. I know that in Quebec they have a program where they will pay you 60$ for an 10+ year old fridge or freezer.
Or there's always Freecycle, depending again on your area.

You might want to check if a food pantry, shelter, etc might need it.

I sold mine on Craigslist. The couple that bought it were thrilled to get one at a reasonable price and I was happy for it to go.

Craigslist if you want to sell it or give it away. My parents did this with a chest freezer when they bought a newer upright freezer to replace it. Someone was at their door within 4 hours of posting it, with cash in hand.
I've never had good luck with Freecycle. People never show up, or it drags on for days with them emailing a "sorry I wasn't able to pickup today" note for a week before finally coming to get the free item.
Otherwise the food pantry idea sound wonderful and you can claim fair market value for a tax deduction.

Online is the best place, unless you want to donate it. The tax break won't be significant. I also like to pass things on to other family members. When we bought our home, I gave all the old appliances to my son so that he would have newer, or at least dependable, appliances. The only thing wrong with them was that we didn't like their color!
