One thing about the freezer in the bedroom - they generate a strong electromagnetic field. For those who are sensitive, it can cause sleep disruptions. Some scientists believe the fields are dangerous to our overall health (book: ZAPPED) and may be cancer-causing. If it were me, I'd find a spot away from the bed or couch for the fridge. Just sayin'...better to be safe than sorry - or you'll pay lots more than you ever saved on food in medical bills.

Canning in the summer takes such fortitude! I just can't face it except for tomatos.
Frozen zucchini - I have a 5 year old, so I put the shredded frozen zucchini in just about everything. You do have to pour the water off when it thaws. I put it on pizza, quiche, in zucchini muffins and bread, and every noodle dish and casserole, and in soup...it basically just disappears into whatever you cook with it. It adds some vitamins and fiber to a little kids diet without him "eating vegetables" (though he's actually pretty good about veggies overall).

The freezer is located about three feet from the foot of my bed. It does add some warmth to the room, but it rarely gets really hot in Seattle so I don't notice. No sleep disturbances yet.

Irulan, it is completely inconceivable to me that ice-cream bars could go undiscovered for five years. :-) They would have little neon arrows pointing at them in *my* freezer!

My husband shares your mindset towards ice cream bars, but unfortunately he was thrown by the fact that this freezer is the entrance to Narnia or some other time-warped place. A couple Christmases ago I found a piece of cake in there left over from my Sweet 16. I was 26. Maybe this is the source of my distrust towards extra freezers...
