I have a Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner - I think a number of people on this forum also use this scanner. A friend of mine wants to borrow it, and I was wondering if she needs the Adobe Acrobat full package to scan. I have the Mac version so my version won't work on her PC. I know she won't be able to edit her documents without the full version of Acrobat but will the scanner still work? She's making a special trip to pick it up, so I'd like to make sure it will work first.

I believe that the ScanSnap for Mac is a different model from the one that works on PC. I don't know if the Mac version will even work with a PC. If she can get it to work, she'll need the original software that came with the scanner (ScanSnap Manager, etc), and load it on her computer. While the hardware may work, the software probably won't run for a PC, so getting the scanner to talk to her computer may be a problem.

The Mac version of the ScanSnap will work on a PC. I've used it on a computer that already had Adobe Acrobat installed - you can download the ScanSnap manager software from the Fujitsu web site. But I've only tried it on a PC that already had Adobe Acrobat installed.

My Mac version of the ScanSnap (S1500M I believe, purchased in the last year) unexpectedly came with two install discs, one for Mac and one for Windows. You might want to double-check your install discs to see if Windows software was included.

If you have the S1500x line, Scarlet is correct. The Windows version of the scanner should come with Mac software and vice versa. It doesn't come with the Mac version of Acrobat, but no you definitely do not need that in order to use the scanner.
