Irish - I can't believe that 10 years ago I wanted to spend all my free time in the garden. Now I mostly wish that I could afford to hire a young man with a strong back and a love of plants who would do all the work for me. :)

Three years ago we downsized from a house for a family of four to a condo with 2 bedrooms for our empty nest selves. My husband was already retired and dutifully got rid of--various ways--TONS of items of clothes, papers, household things--before the move. I do love my new apt., but not primarily for itself and its ease: I love not having all that junk around. We still have his stamps and slides and emotionally-laden items, but it's at the point where I know what we have.YES!!!! I feel great relief still. I think I could live with way less, butthis is such a big improvement. I still declutter often, as I go. I am not obseesed any more since there is less I am allowed to chuck, but I do maintain. It feels great. It is catharsis and control and peace.

I've felt that way every time I do a major purge. I'm now trying to get to the basement closet, where a lot of items were thrown when we first moved in and have yet to be gone through (8 yrs later). I'm procrastinating, and I'm not sure why, except it's a big job. I hope to get to it before Sept.
