I don't use software but put recipes on a blog. The blog is free and provides a method of indexing and if you make the blog public, a method of searching as well. I have been transferring hard copies of recipes on to the blog. The only problem would be if the blog sponsors decide to stop business.
Netleigh, I once again mention my beloved Bento. Have created a template for recipes and one could add a field where a direct link to a scanned pdf would exist as part of the recipe. You wouldn't have to organize scanned recipe files any more than chuck them in one single folder, then add a path from Bento to it. Click and Adobe or Preview would open it. I want to type into Bento rather than keep a zillion pdf's hanging around, so currently they are in a Food and Drink folder until I've tried them to see whether they are keepers (will type only then) or clutter. For the price of a good recipe software I have an information management software that handles recipes as well as all the other stuff. It's for Mac only, though.

you can take photos of the recipes with an iphone and save them to evernote.
you don't even need to file them if you tag them.
the text is fully searchable, even....get this....even, handwritten text!

I'd googled for a look around and decided I needed to see what other people have chosen too. I'm PC based so can't use Bento, I'll look at evernote as an option. As I'm upgrading to a new laptop the old one might go and live in the kitchen as a web connected recipe book. Ideally I'd have an iPad propped up somewhere but I haven't yet justified spending the money on it as an essential gadget. Somehow holidays seem to win in the budget and I'm coping fine with a laptop and kindle.
another evernote advantage:
it is in the cloud, so it isn't hooked to one piece of hardware.
i access my evernote from phone, ipad, desk.....and from anybody else's phone or ipad etc if i should get stuck.
my notes are available everywhere, all the time.
it's pretty cool and i find it a lot easier to use than google docs, which frankly mystifies me.
