As the year is winding down, I thought it might be useful, uplifting and even fun to share some of the positive feedback we have received over the year for our uncluttering efforts. Just in the past few days:
(1) A little girl (one I did not know) walked up to me, clasped her hands together and said, "You look beautiful!" The real victory here was that I had been able to go to my closet and find appropriate, flattering clothes for a Thursday rosary and Friday wake. A year ago I would have be in a panic, pawing through an overstuffed closet and finding nothing that fit or suited. And there were the right clothes for a university reception on Wednesday and a workshop I'm leading today . . . this has eliminated major stress in my life.
(2) At the wake someone told me that a mutual friend said how great my house was looking and that I had inspired them both to muck out their kitchen cabinets and garages.
(3) A friend called last night and asked for a ride to the workshop. I said yes without hesitation because my car is clean and empty of stuff. Nothing in it but jumper cables, a couple of reusable grocery bags and an umbrella. A year ago I would have been up til midnight (in the rain) hauling out junk, which would have been dumped in that garage, where it might have lingered for years.
(4) We had workmen in the house all week giving an estimate for new ductwork and insulation. They crawled over every inch of the house. I didn't have to do a THING to prepare. Even the attic was almost empty and respectable. The first estimator who came couldn't stop commenting on what a great house this is. Yesterday, we had four guys here, all gathered in the the workshop area and talking about how they wanted something just like that in THEIR garages. A year ago it was a filthy pile of disorganized junk.
So what victories have everyone else achieved?
