I live in an old (150+ years) house and have the typical lack of closet space issues that come with older homes. I've pretty much made the best use of space I can in my bedroom closet (even had California Closets come out for an appointment and they sheepishly admitted there was nothing more they could do!), but I could squeeze a little more room out of this space if I could just find a really good over-the-door shoe rack. The thing is, every one I can find online seems flimsy. I have good, solid heavy doors and so am not too concerned about weight - I'd rather have a solid, heavy chrome unit, maybe even one that can be screwed into the door. Does anyone know where I could get such a thing? The California Closets rep suggested Hold Everything, but they don't have a website. Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

this is a cool design; but I'm looking for something that will hold 20-25 pairs of shoes. Unfortunately I just don't have that kind of available real estate, except on the back of the closet door. Uncluttering visually is important to me, too - I don't want to have to look at my shoes after I've put them away!

Try the Container Store. They have this one that seems similar to what you're looking for. It seems to be out of stock for shipping but if you have a store nearby, they might have it available. It's in stock at my local store.

You might also try Stacks and Stacks or Improvements Catalog. I've bought from both of them before and their items are usually very good quality.
I have this one from Stacks and Stacks:
It's made of mesh, but I prefer it to a metal one because it takes up less space in the back of the door. (I had trouble getting my doors to open completely with the metal ones.) It's surprisingly sturdy and stable. I also use one in my bathroom to store small towels and toiletries.

Just a little info: Hold Everything doesn't have a website as the brand no longer exists. It was a division of Williams-Sonoma which closed in 2006. Too bad as they offered some very high quality items!

I have one from the container store for the back of a closet door. Instead of using the door "clips," however, I simply put anchors in the side of my closet wall and screwed it directly into the wall. I'm sure you can do this on your wood door and it would be less "swingey" and much more stable than hanging it from the clips.
