Yesterday was rather stressful with a doctor's visit, and I didn't get much else done. Today I let myself sleep in without setting the alarm, about 10 hours altogether. Also, I didn't write up a to-do list last night nor yet today. Instead, this morning I just enjoyed a leisurely breakfast during a "free zone"; whereas usually I'm reviewing my to-do list as I eat breakfast and my mind is churning with arranging logistics for the upcoming tasks. But not this morning. I simply enjoyed breakfast while reading random threads on random forums, and without yet planning my own day. And what I noticed was... my breakfast tasted amazingly delicious! I didn't eat anything new or unusual, so I'm wondering: Did it taste better because I wasn't preoccupied with all my to-do's for the day?

i've given myself permission to do nothing today. it's h's first day back to work since christmas eve so i've needed a day to just putter around the house with no real ajenda. and it has been lovely.

Had a physiotherapy session today and it was rather painful the good way. I even got homework!
Got a nice stack of cool books checked out from the library.

Got a much-needed haircut, now feel very pretty and stylish.
Also bought a concert ticket. Arlo Guthrie is playing in a tiny venue 2 minutes walk from my home next week. I can't honestly say that I have heard a lot of his songs, but the man is a living, walking, talking music legend so I can't miss this.

One nice thing: dh doing the school run this afternoon. I didn't have the energy and it's a treat not to have to rush over to school to pick the kids up for a change.
2nd nice thing: my dirty laundry basket is completely empty. Not for long but still a rare enough event for celebration :)Posted 4 months ago # -
we have been living in our small car (and motels) for the last four days and 3000 km.
having minimal luggage has been great.
yesterday we washed the car, vacuumed, wiped down all of the insides, cleaned the windows, refilled the water bottles, and hit the road again.....and it was a very nice thing indeed.Posted 4 months ago # -
Candy: Jealous! I've seen Arlo in concert several times and you'll love him. He's a great storyteller. Next weekend we're going to a local coffee house where some musician friends are doing a tribute concert to Woody :)
Bandicoot -- welcome back!
My nice thing this week is actually an expenditure. I have hard anodized caphalon pots and pans which are now silver (rather than the original anodized black) on the inside. I thought these would be my "forever" cookware, but obviously not. We haven't mistreated them (and we don't have a dishwasher, so that's not the issue) but our water is infamously hard, and that could be the problem. I just ordered new Cuisinart tri-ply cookware: a stock pot, 3 saucepans, a steamer insert and a frying pan. Promised myself this if we stuck with the diet (which has me cooking every day) for a year. Which we have. And they were on sale.
The next step is a fix-it -- I'm going to paint the inside of the pot and pan cabinet and install chrome roll-outs. And don't worry -- I will get rid of the old cookware! No keeping it justin case.

susanintexas, it is so nice to be able to change old battered cookware for newer stuff of better quality! I'm in the process of doing the same right now, and today I bought a Scanpan ceramic titanium roasting pan to replace the cheap, old, battered non-stick roasting pan. The new one wasn't cheap, but hopefully I won't have to replace it every 12 months as I have been forced to do with the old one. I actually need a non-stick roasting pan, I use it at least a couple of times every week.

Yay for new saucepans, susan!
One nice thing: popped to the allotment to drop off veg peelings to the compost heap and pick some sage for my dinner and it wasn't quite dark at 4.30, the evenings are finally getting longer!Posted 4 months ago # -
everyone is being so nice.
i met two of my best friends today. last year during our annual meeting they had one daughter each but this year they had added a five-month old and three weeks old baby to their respective families do there was a lot of girl talk on different heights and levels. phew.

dh reorganized his wardrobe. it seems to be a pattern: whenever i start a new project, he is sceptical at the beginning, looks what i am doing for 2-3-4 weeks (sometimes longer) and finally also begins to work on this project. now he seems to be on project 333, this is sweet. :)

I'm having such fun with DH this weekend. It's a long weekend here for Epiphany, and it's his birthday. We've hit up a couple exhibits, seen a movie, went for lunch yesterday and today, went shopping together to get his birthday gift, then went for cocktails tonight. Tomorrow after church we're having lunch at a very old Viennese Café then heading to the zoo at Palais Schönbrunn. In the evening we've reservations at a restaurant he likes.

so glad to hear that everyone is doing so well!
Today I bit the bullet and hired a personal trainer to work with me at my home 2x a week. I did this once before for my wedding and got amazing results in about 3 months. Unfortunately the year after that I got very sick (turned out to be fibromyalgia, plus a few other complimentary illnesses) and was unable to exercise or really do much of anything for over six months. I'm feeling nearly back to normal again and I'm excited about un-doing the damage that was done! It isn't cheap, but good health and feeling self confident is priceless.

Took advantage of the fact that I now have a very clean fridge with plenty of space, to put in a couple of bottles of white wine and a bottle of champagne. It is always good to have some wine and champagne ready for instant use for Justin Case :)

Well done, luxcat! Sounds like a well-deserved treat for your health :)
Nice thing: took the kids swimming this evening. Not so nice thing: when swimming I noticed ds1 has a weird rash so I have to take him to the GP tomorrow. I have a feeling it's scarlet fever, he had it when he was 5 and it looks like exactly the same collection of symptoms. He seems absolutely fine though, spent all afternoon tearing about with my cousins' kids. He'll have to have a few days off school, luckily uni doesn't start till the week after this coming one. So maybe this is ds1's One Nice Thing: a few days off school when he feels perfectly fine!Posted 4 months ago # -
candy, that is about the only time justin is welcomed with open arms.
