sometimes it's just the little things we do for ourselves or our homes that add up the most and encourage us toward a more positive life outlook. if you need a place to record the nice thing(s) you've done today add them here! decluttering, cleaning, decorating, just simply taking time for yourself, anything... celebrate today's small victories!

lol irishbell...i let dh sleep through midnight.
he was utterly worn out from an epic five hour kayak trip across the lake and back. lots of wind, non stop paddling!Posted 4 months ago # -
we're still ringing in the new year as it's only 9:40pm, but my nice thing today was opening a second bottle of wine. h and i are usually content with one (or less), but we're celebrating the end of a somewhat difficult era and looking forward to a much happier and productive new year. it calls for a second.
and can i say that my nice thing for the week was joining this community? i've participated in online forums in the past and found myself being dragged down by the snark and drama. i'm so pleased to find a positive, uplifting community where we're all connected by the same goal of simply being _better_. a happy new year to you all!

@bandicoot - i'm utterly jealous of your kayaking adventures. we live on a lake and it is great in the warmer months, but absolutely miserable right now. i am so looking forward to the summer when we can swim and boat again.

o no no, i am no kayaker!
my husband has wanted one for ever and recently got a marvellously good one second hand on ebay.
he is beside himself and i am happy for him.
we have three lakes close by, and the ocean is just an hour away ( though less than 30 km as the crow flies!).... he has loads of expeditions planned.
and i've got lots of overseas trips planned, lol!Posted 4 months ago # -

Ok, the positive action versus one nice thing distinction is confusing me! Definitions? Or are they the same?
My kids woke up really late and ds2 is pretending to be a puppy, we had a nice happy new year cuddle. That qualifies as nice, right?Posted 4 months ago # -
Had a tough but good talk with my sister today. It cleared the air and we concluded it's awesome we're not like mom and her sister; auntie keeps chewing on things and is bitter about stuff that happened decades ago.

lottielot, as I understand they are the same, but since this one was posted first I decided to put my contribution here.

I must give myself a huge pat on the back for spending some time yesterday cleaning up my apartment, including ironing of laundry, throwing away half-wilted flowers, changing to clean sheets, doing the dishes etc before leaving for the new year party. It was such a pleasure to wake up today to a new year in a perfectly clean and peaceful apartment.

@lotti - they are the same. i'm indifferent to which one continues, but it would be nice to condense to one thread. decluttering and streamlining and all ;-)

We drove across town and took DD the chairs and a bedside table that were donated by her grandmother, and the day before, we shopped for a bathroom light and a few other things for her new apt/flat. We also took 4 bags full of stuff she had left here 5 years ago. She has a week off and hopefully time to sort through it all. Otherwise she can now put it in her own storage compartment!
Getting the things out from under the desk and from under the night table made me feel so good.

Did some laundry and decided to once again iron my sheets. It really makes a huge difference to the feeling of the sheets, and since I've decided that it's Frugal Month, I need to find cheap ways of doing nice things for myself.

candy I am in awe, ironing sheets? Atta girl! I am quite sure I don't even own an iron anymore, unless it's in one of those boxes in the "spare room". If I do, it hasn't been used in 3.5 years.

reading a trashy crime novel in bed, with an intensely purring stripey cat on my lap, and a really good coffee beside me.
i aim to move the fishpond today, so the waterlilies will grow better. it needs more sun.

Had my final long lie in bed with a book before work again tomorrow. I eventually got up and started my day in the afternoon!
