a friend of mine called me last night.
his entire house contents (not covered by insurance because they aren't in his house) had been drowned in a flash flood in toowoomba, five hours previously.
he is on holidays out of state right now.
he moves around with his work and rents his house out.
meanwhile, he stores all his stuff with a relative....whose entire property was flooded last night.
i have spent YEARS shopping with this guy. he loves to shop.
he taught me how to shop in bali. he has influenced my personal style a lot. he has suggested clothes for me for the better part of 20 years.
he stayed with us in sept and nov last year (to help with production) and was amazed at the decluttering that has been going on.
i talked about it frequently with him, and fought a losing battle over bringing catalogues home, lol!
however, i think the message got through....because when he rang and told me this, i was all OMG, and he was pretty calm.
i said, dude, you sound really calm about this and he said....o, i have realised, it's just things, you know? some of it was nice things, but it really was just stuff. and i've had four hours to think about it. and none of us were killed (there have been eight deaths reported so far).
he cannot get home for a few days and he faces a huge clean up when he does. along with the rest of the town.
it has given me a lot of food for thought.
