Just thought I'd open up a discussion relating to the ATAD threads as there have been problems this year.
To prevent them getting so long and stopping working for many people I propose we start monthly ATAD threads.
How does everyone else feel about this?

Works for me, as I'm beginning to have problems on a couple other threads as well.

i like whatever keeps as many people as possible able to participate as simply as possible.

I think something is wrong with the forum, have had even the new ATAD acting up on me again. But as an idea this is good. The monthly goals have worked well, the resurrecting I mean, so why not start a new thread monthly, too. Empirically, it is more interesting to have monthly threads as we can see immediately how the activity level has changed :)

Fine by me

Good idea !

Sounds good to me. I think monthly threads will help me recommit each month and stay engaged in the daily process.

It will be too messy each month to follow multiple threads and ppl will most likely post in the old one and the new one at the same time... So I vote quarterly. :)

I say at least quqrtrly, prefer monthly. Is it possible to lock a thread from posting, buyt leave it viewable? That way the moderator (Erin?) could make the last post directing membere to the newer one, then close it. This is what happens on other forums I visit. Some are busy enough that they have new threads weekly.

Swede: Why would we have to follow multiple threads? When one month ends, the next month's thread would begin, and we would post on the current month. Or have I misunderstood?

Ella: Bc I just figured there would be a lot of mistakes where ppl accidentally post in the wrong thread. And a few who will refuse to switch threads every month - there was a bit of drama over starting the end of year thread so I think that would happen to the monthly one too. :)

You know, when I open up to the forum home page, it tells me how old a thread is and I figure out when I last read them, and start there, then read the newer ones. If you click on the red time of the last post it takes you to the latest entry in a thread. (Excuse me if you all know this already - took me awhile to figure it out), so really, reading multiple threads is not an issue. What is an issue is when a thread is so long that the last page won't load until it has X number of posts. Obviously a glitch in the software, but I like the idea of monthly threads to deal with it.

I wouldn't be too worried. If it was announced as ATAD January 2012 I have a hard time believing someone wouldn't get the concept of twelve threads per year. We have clearly a majority here who think monthly is good, so let's just say that is how 2012 is going to get decluttered.
Whoever is the first to post ATAD February 2012 sees to it that even the thread name becomes monthly and once people who have grasped the concept of monthly decluttering start adding their chuckouts, January will become silenced soon and moved to page 2.
New Year Goals 2011 has worked very well this year and there is no reason to believe people would forget the date; new month, new thread :)

@pkilmain, I actually discovered the Freshness function only a week ago... You would not believe how much clicking has been decluttered since then :D

Pkilmain & Ninakk, I too just discovered this, maybe a month ago, and then promptly forgot it!!!
Thanks for the reminder.Posted 5 months ago # -
so the only question remaining is, who's in charge of starting the threads? :-)

We don't really need someone in charge of starting the threads, those of us who have been using the new year goals just pick it up again at the start of the month. I'm sure whoever is in the 'earliest time zone' or wakes up early can do it.
If I haven't seen one up I'd create one as I'm in the UK and ahead of the USA, but there are plenty of people before me in time. Whenever it's created it will be near the top of the board and should be unavoidable. However me agreeing to create one if there wasn't one already up would fall down immediately when February comes around as I'll be skiing and probably won't be getting on to the internet for that week.
So far there appears to be a consensus of 'yes let's go monthly' in 2012. Any dissenters out there?

I agree with Netleigh, New year thread has worked that way throughout all months so far. For some reason it has been me quite a few times who has resurrected it, probably because those ahead of me in time have not been as active in it and since I am an hour ahead of Central E and two ahead of UK/Ireland. On the other hand some in the UK seem to jump out of bed before the crack of dawn, so no rule that I'm always up first here in Europe :) (weirdos wake up at SIX or earlier even, tsk tsk)

I like the suggestion of monthly threads, too. Like Ella, I think it would make me easier for me to recommit. I haven't had a trouble with long threads loading, but I'm in the southwest U.S. and not a morning person.

ninakk,
Was it me?
If I've been posting at 'too early o'clock' it's not because I'm up and awake. It's because I've woken up in the night, still sleepy and wanting to go back to sleep, I seem to need to get up and do something before being able to go back to sleep until a sensible hour like 8! I either do some ironing or browse the internet until my eyelids are clanging shut, if I stayed in bed I'd lie there with my head ticking over making plans and lists and generally keeping me awake.Posted 5 months ago #
