Wondering what goals everyone is setting for uncluttering in the new year? Here are mine for the next six months:
(1) Continue ATAD, as this has worked well to keep the momentum going.
(2) Home office: shift the stuff that belongs at work (there's lots of it); tidy cable management; decrease # of books by at least one shelf; cull all the papers and organize better.
(3) Bedroom: Work seriously on weight loss -- in six months assess progress and if stalled (ie, less that 25 lbs), get rid of all the still stylish but too small clothes. Wah!
(4) Garage: Declutter and organize all that remains within my scope to do (much of the remaining stuff belongs to DH) -- I still have two tubs of junk, plus some organizing I can do.
(5) Projects: Work on and with DH to complete projects: baseboards & valences in sun porch; new overhead light and re-purposed microwave/trash area in kitchen.

Mine for the next year are:
1) Get all of my parent's home videos, currently on VHS and DVD in my closet, onto my computer, edited, and reburned to discs and backed up to HD.
2) Finish digitizing all my parent's family photos.I will probably also get rid of more books, but considering I decreased my collection by 90% (from about 500 books down to about 50 now) last year, probably won't get rid of much.

Centralize and minimize! I have target areas with measurable, acheivable goals, but if I keep those 2 themes in my head, even on my least productive days, I will have something that I can do to make progress or not make it worse!

Unclutter my fridge, my diet, and my thighs.

Send my parent's photos out to be digitized
Finish my last scrapbook (that's it for me, all digital from now on)
Do my digital baby book (a year late)
Clear out old/unused clothes and shoes.
And start gymnastics!!!Posted 1 year ago # -
I still have to think of my new year's resolutions, I only have 2 days to do it!!!
I'll try and do it... hmmm...
1) Lose weight, I was on my way but then it was Christmas....
2) Unclutter my house and make it be a home more than a place were we sleep and keep things, lol
3) Stop smoking again.
4) Stop procrastinating
5) Be more organized at work so I dont have to prepare my lessons again year after yearThat is more than enough lol

My goal is to unclutter the music and photos on my computer. I've started listening through my whole music collection (starting with the stuff I've NEVER played) and deleting anything that's not terrific. I might start on the photos tonight and hope to get them uncluttered *before* the new year. They're not in too much of a mess.

I've been thinking about this lot, will be good to check it periodically and see how it's going!
1. send CD collection off for digitization and sell the hard copies. The first I've investigated and it's quite cheap really. The second I saw an ad on telly for buying your old CDs, it's probably a pittance but since there are hundreds of them it may be easier than lugging them to the charity shop, lol. Most belong to dh but even he's realised he never actually listens to CDs any more.
2. Keep on nagging dh to part with things, organise his loft space for him
3. finish off housey stuff requiring MEN (just a few bits in the bathroom and the new lights to go up, then done)
4. get new stair carpet
5. put contents of shed in skip (about 1/3 done already) in preparation for dh's home office in garden (which I will end up having to organise). More MEN, but thank goodness this year I found a gem of a chap who has all the men I require and is reasonably prompt at sorting things out.
6. freecycle camping gear from understairs cupboard when the weather warms up a bit
7. sort out my bedroom, which is less cluttered but still looks horrible. The carpet needs ripping up, a new bed needs to be bought, need to lose the bookshelf in there, need to make it a nice space instead of a dumping ground.
8. unclutter all the plants I bought last year which didn't get planted, unclutter the pots on our patio which will need hauling over come spring, this year was the first time we've actually had a nice eating area outside our back door and we used it a lot, that is a huge incentive to stick with it this year
9. unclutter the compost heaps from my allotment into a different area. Not been started yet due to frozen ground.
It will be interesting to see how much of this is actually accomplished!! If I only make partial progress on most of them I'll be happy actually.Posted 1 year ago # -
lottielot: Where are you sending it off to be digitized? It is VERY easy to digitize CDs yourself. All it takes is a bit of time.

1. Do a big 'spring clean'so house looks better - on way remove items that snuck in after the last declutter. This includes going through all the kitchen cupboards
2. File things like old bills again- that pile 'to be filed' builds up!
3. Go through clothes again and edit/mend/see what will double as maternity wear. A lot of my trousers need hemming as they fit round the waist, but are then too long.
4. Re-evaluate work routines to see how I can end up with less piles of marking - this will include more self and peer marking on behalf of the pupils, and perhaps staying abit longer as I live so close to work. I won't want to carry heavy bags around in a few months.

1. Repair and sell my house
2. Pay off debts
3. Lose some of that nagging weight
4. Lose paper clutter
5. Get rid of unfinished craft projects
6. Get a jobobviously, I could resort these into any order.

1. get apartment into move-out condition so if we decide to move ... we can.
2. get home office into optimally functional configuration even if that means buying new furniture, dang it.
3. go out dancing more often.
4. get wills, POAs, and directives done.
5. publish the finished novel.Posted 1 year ago # -
kamakazi, I know it's easy to do, but it's even easier to pay someone else to do it for you! And when I looked I was surprised how cheap it was, definitely worth paying someone else to do rather than do it myself. I have better things to spend my time on, that is my new motto. Hence all the men :) My dh earns plenty, we live in a modest house, I'm busy with study and the kids, I'm even contemplating getting a cleaner this year now that my house is less cluttered than ever before.
I forgot one and have an extra one:
10. sort out our filing system/s. They are completely disastrous with patches of good practice, plus dh and I have different systems which do not mesh. We need to thrash out a few things there, maybe he does finances and I do housey/car/general stuff.
11. Have a more regular to do list. I found some I like at: http://simplemom.net/ I really like this website and its ethos, much more doable for me than flylady
SunshineR: those are some big goals you have there!!Posted 1 year ago # -
I always make too many resolutions to keep track of, let alone keep, so here's me trying to limit myself. I'm only listing the ones tied to decluttering:
1. set up a better photo organizing system on my computer. Right now my shots are organized 5 different ways, and it's not helping anyone.
2. revisit my paper filing system and see if it can be further optimized. It's working well so far, but I'll be trying to set up a business in 2011, and I'm thinking the filing will need tweaking.
3. sort out all of my little household projects (replacing the casters on an office chair, touching up paint where it was scratched when we moved in, putting up a couple of decorative shelves, starting on a gallery wall, etc etc etc) -- either finish them, or decide to abandon them once and for all.
4. continue to limit what comes into the house, and be more diligent about taking out what needs to be donated.

lottielot: thanks, these are some goals that have nagged at me for a long time...and I just want to see some progress. Ergh, maybe I have too many goals.
chacha1: dance much more often...:))))

sunshineR: your goals seem quite interconnected to me. Maybe if you start with the weight thing by exercising? I find that for me plenty of exercise and enough sleep is key to getting everything else done, otherwise I have no energy to tackle anything at all. Then if you want to sell your house then uncluttering follows from that, and the job and house thing goes with paying off your debts. If you exercise and lose some weight you'll feel good, which makes it easier to get a job :)

lottielot: I can start by walking. I don't like a lot of heavy exercise and never really did. Not athletically talented or interested.
I have been uncluttering my house over the last year and it just needs a few repairs before being put on the market. I know the US housing market is in the tank right now, but I want to be out from under my debts.
Sometimes I feel on task; sometimes I'm not motivated, sometimes overwhelmed. I tried making a list of goals and breaking it into small tasks. Today is a pretty good day. It has warmed up here and we may even hit 50 F on Saturday. woo-hoo!

Growing (up) and taking better care my self for 2011

hmmm, general goals for 2011.
1. garden more
2. cook more
3. entertain more
4. yoga more
5. travel more
6. walk more
7. ride my motorbike moredecluttering goals:
1. the bookcase (in fact, i am toying with the idea of getting off the computer and getting cracking on this right now)
2. the laundry (badly needs a makeover....not cluttered exactly, but it's outside and kind of unaesthetic)
3. get the living room debris out of the bedroom...this consists of a bowl of *stuff* and some random bits and pieces. i don't want them in the new room, so why keep them at all?Posted 1 year ago # -
Funny, nobody has "work more" on their lists!
