I am in need of a photo printing program that is simple to use, has the drag-n-drop feature, and has lots of picture size formats. I have purchased several and they don't seem to be what I am looking for. I've spent a good deal of money on programs that I just don't use. Now those programs just sit in a cabinet (now I need to unclutter those). If anyone has any suggestions, I sure would appreciate it.

It might help if you told us what you've tried....

Ooops! I have Adobe Photo Shop Elements 8, a couple versions of Photo Suite, Scrapbook Studio, the ones that come with the Sony and Canon digital cameras, and a couple other ones that are in storage boxes that I just don't remember the names. What I really want is a drag-n-drop program with several picture size formats. Something really easy. I had one that came on an old computer that I loved, but I can't find it anywhere or even a version of it. I think it was HP. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I haven't tried it but Google has a free photo editing program called Picasa, which has printing features.

Felicia, I can't find a good program either, but I had one with an old computer that I love, too. Why do those idiots have to screw up a good thing?

Thanks, Ella. I'm gonna check it out. JuliaJayne, I totally agree. It was a program I used all the time. It was so easy. They try to make things better, but I usually find the 'better' not so user-friendly.

felicia, do you know the name of the "old" program? it would be easier to find a replacement if i knew what you are looking for :) could it be the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer"? this is a very basic program, but i like it to watch and print pictures.

My MacBook came with iPhoto, and I love it! I just spent a few hours scanning photos into it. Of course, it's not just software it's a whole new system. But I am a convert.

Have you tried online photo printing services? I would never print photos at home now, not when it's lots cheaper and easier to do it online and have them posted back to me. Most websites have basic editing and you just specify which sizes you want.

Mimi, I think it was an HP program. It was on the computer when we bought it. This was a computer we had several years ago. It was really basic, but had some weird layouts. Some were collage style that had multiple sizes on one page. Another one I used was like a small filmstrip. I did a scrapbook page for my daughter's first fish she caught. I had several pics, but not alot of space, so I put them in the filmstrip and it was really cute. It also had the regular sizes, 8x10, 5x7, 3x5, etc. I just opened the program, selected the layout, dragged the pics into the spaces, and printed. It was simple, and I used it all the time. I haven't printed many pics in a really long time. I have a new grandson and need to get his first year scrapbook started, so I'm on the lookout for a similar program. Maybe, I just need to take my time and learn one of the programs I already have.
Rutheverhart, I noticed some of the programs for my iPhone are cool. Maybe one day I'll convert to Mac too.
Lottielot, I haven't done any online printing yet. I don't have unlimited internet and downloading pics and videos is not something I can do alot of from home.
My husband says I don't like change. I guess he's right. I feel like, if you find something that works, don't mess with it. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and input. I really appreciate it.Posted 9 months ago # -
Hi Felicia,
HP has this free photo-printing gadget on their website "HP Photo Print Gadget with Smart Crop":
http://www.hp.com/global/us/en/consumer/digital_photography/free/software/photo-print-gadget.html
Perhaps that could be an approximation of what you used? They only talk about pretty standard formats in the description, though.
This is also free, and has "filmstrip layout" listed in the features:
http://www.xnview.com/en/features.htmlHere is a list of more available software:
http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoprintsw/Photo_Printing_Software_Windows.htmThey specifically review this freeware and it sounds like it could fit the bill:
http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/freesoftware/fr/photoscape.htmAnd then there's this for digital scrapbooking; with free account feature (EDIT: seems you have to pay for print-quality files, though):
http://www.cropmom.com/Digital_Scrapbooking.aspx(Can't vouch for any of them, I just enjoy Googling so much! Hope I am not cluttering your time too much with following my links.)
EDITED to add:
This, also from HP, may be what you had:
http://www.hp.com/global/us/en/consumer/digital_photography/free/software/photo-creations.html?jumpid=ex_r602_hppc
"HP Photo Creations is free software that lets you easily create photo books, calendars, collages, greeting cards and other keepsakes that can be printed at home or shipped to you."Posted 9 months ago # -
Katha, Thank you! I've been having internet trouble and have been without my computer for a couple of days. It looks like you've covered all my requests. I am looking forward to checking out your suggestions.

I second printing outside of home - whether online or by going to a physical store. It's fail in terms of keeping you independent, but at least it's a solution you can do NOW. Which means you declutter the task from your to-do list, and don't need to keep on testing software like crazy - you can wait and browse leisurely every few weeks or whenever you stop by a computer store, until you eventually find the perfect thing :-)
I've used this method - do the simplest, quickest solution, then free up time and energy to leisurely discover the perfect one - quite a few times now, and it's worked for me.
Of course, it could be a hassle of you print loads or on very short deadlines (eg, you take the photos and need the prints next day).

If you print at Shutterfly you can pick up the photos at Target. Also Walgreens gives you the option of picking up at a store when you print from their site.
