I use vinegar as well, the cheapest without any colour because i want my clothes to keep their colour. I think its made from white wine. I use it instead of fabric softener, It works quiete well and the machine is also descaled.

EraserGirl: I get where you're coming from; saving money and getting to a realization of what's truly necessary.
But if this dryer problem happened when the gas guys were doing their work, you should be calling them and telling them that they messed something up! There's no reason they should charge you a service call. I don't think you want to assume that the dryer is OK even if you aren't using it, especially since it's a gas dryer.
(mimi: the cheapest white vinegar that you can buy in the store isn't made from wine, it's usually made from grains. the vinegars called sherry vinegar, champagne vinegar--those are the specialty types that incorporate wine or champagne grapes.)

pammyfay: i took a look: you are right! it´s spirit vinegar, made from grains (plus 25% wine vinegar added).
as the taste is completely irrelevant for my laundry, it´s ok for 29 cent per bottle.
