I moved into a 1000 sq ft apartment 2 years ago (from a 2300 sq ft house I shared with my ex-bf) and did a decent uncluttering effort before the move. I've spent the past 2 years continuing to unclutter, and thought I had done a really good job. I'm moving this Friday, and was patting myself on the back when I packed my books, 8 boxes of miscellaneous stuff, and had nothing more I could pack besides clothes and dishes. I started to work on those last night, and as I cleared out closets, realized there is still a lot of miscellaneous junk that had been hiding somehow. A lot of it is my boyfriend's, who moved in last year. I'm hoping tonight we can go through it and I can convince him to get rid of it (a leg massager he bought on vacation last year when we walked miles and miles through Washington, D.C. that ended up not working well anyway...why did he keep it?) It's still not a ton of junk, but too much for my comfort.
I sat down after packing last night and said, "We still have too much stuff." He didn't respond, but that doesn't necessarily mean he disagrees. I just hope I can convince him to get rid of some more...like the xmas decorations. We have a nice storage closet right now at the apt and walk in closets which makes for easy storage of unnecessary stuff, but we won't have either of those things at the new place. It's going to be 40sq ft smaller. So having 4 large Rubbermaid bins of xmas decorations just won't be feasible, especially since it's only used once a year, and we probably won't have room for a tree anyway.
Wish me luck guys. Oh, and not all the hidden junk is his. I have to lay claim to some of it. Need to take today's Unclutterer article about Justin Case to heart.
