Has anyone tried this? It is expensive, so I want some feedback before I start.
Thanks

I have tried it on my classroom wall. It took about 8 layers of paint for any magnetic effect to work. Even then, the only kind of magnet I could get to work on it were the flat sheets of magnetic material. And it would only hold those sheets, not paper under the magnet. It worked the same with no cover paint or with a coat of the paint that matched the walls.
I was able to write things on the flat sheet magnet pages and stick those up, but it was not worth the expense. My classroom whiteboard is magnetic which makes it a multi tasker! Woo hoo!

I have no experience with magnetic paint whatsoever, but remembered a post on Apartment Therapy, this one: Good Questions: Does Magnetic Paint Work? It's a little older, but the post links to an extremely strong magnetic paint (so they claim), and there are a few experiences with magnetic paint in the comments. There is also one commenter who owns a company that makes a magnetic paint you can mix with your own paint in your desired color.
There was also a post on D*S on this, here: diy project: magnetic chalkboard mirror, but what they did was to take a thin sheet of steel as basis for chalkboard paint. Still, that would be a sturdy and definitely magnetic solution for a frame (maybe not for an entire wall, though). Hope this helps!Posted 1 year ago # -
Thank you very much for the link on Apartment therapy. I got lots of good advice about the paint and the process. Thanks again!

Here's another link to a blog description of using magnetic paint:

Update: I ordered the rare earth magnets and it makes such a difference in the effectiveness of the paint!
I like this company's web site. They have all the specs for all of us Geeks who care about such things.
