Starting this week, Kindle books are now available for checkout in libraries. The plan is to have 11,000 US libraries participate. It's quite painless. I downloaded one book and put a hold on another.

I'm sure you will, eventually. In the mean time, call your library and write to Kindle letting them know your desire. :)

every book i've wanted to check out so far has been "unavailable"....dang it!
Irishbell: I put myself on a waiting list to see how long it took and it was only a few days. Actually, a little faster than I wanted, as you only have 4 days to claim it and I want some books to take with me on vacation :)
It seems that Kindle and Nook owners are pulling from the same pool of books. Now when I request a book from a library, it's asking me what version (ePub vs Kindle) I want. I, of course, want ePub since I have a Nook. And since the libraries have only so many copies of books to loan out, we are now all in queue. Depending on the library, I have waited weeks for books. You never know whether it's only going to be a day or two or a few weeks.
