Do you have a junk drawer? I have one, but there isn't actual junk in the drawer, it's just miscellaneous things that don't have a better home. I tried finding a place for everything over the last 5 years ago, but I suppose I didn't try hard enough. Since then, more stuff has found its way into the drawer. Is a junk drawer unavoidable or is it just my cluttery nature that I had a junk drawer in every place I have lived?

I don't have a true junk drawer any more. I *do* have a drawer where the batteries, string, scissors, etc live, but I know exactly what's in there, for the most part. Sometimes I get excessive numbers of stuff (like too many picture hangers), but that's about it. Now the kitchen island is another story...

Yes I do, it's in the kitchen and holds things that don't really fit anywhere else.
Lost keys, the sliders for moving furniture, birthday cake candle holders etc.
There is another phenomenon 'the Man Drawer', this clip from comic Michael McIntyre about the Man drawer is great

Netleigh....the man drawer is too funny!
I only have 2 drawers in my kitchen so I don't have room for a junk drawer. DH built sections in one for my silverware so in one section, I keep a pen, paper for grocery lists, a few twist ties, etc. Guess it's my junk section. ;)

Not only do we have a junk drawer in the kitchen; we have a junk desk in the living room.
Neither one is to be confused with the Junk Food Drawer, which holds cookies and other edibles.
I foresee that the junk drawer is about to be uncluttered with extreme prejudice. Perhaps I'll start by removing the various hand tools that have migrated there over the past few months.

This is an interesting question -- can you "be" an unclutterer and still have a junk drawer? I counted up the small drawers in our house and we have 25 of them, not counting DH's desk drawers, which are way beyond by responsibility or control. Every one of them has the potential to become a junk drawer.
I'm still refining, but my goal is not to have any junk. There will inevitably be storage space for miscellaneous items, but I am working on making that into a thoughtful decision rather than just tossing / hiding things in a drawer.
Misc keys: I liberated a small tupperware container from my MIL's (she has a huge stash of 1960s tupperware) and put all the unidentified keys there. We've moved a lot and I suspect many of them are house keys for places we lived 30 years ago :) I know, though, that as soon as I toss one it will be to a padlock that we need to open.

I have a small kitchen drawer for miscellaneous items (laundry quarters, string, hex key for resetting the disposal, tips for the end of my cane, etc. But they're sorted into tiny little bins, by type as much as possible, and the drawer gets cleaned and purged periodically.

So I went to the U-Tube video and promptly lost half the morning watching and laughing about all things Michael McIntyre.
That led me to his shows promoting other comedians and that was it for the productivity Saturday! Loved it, however!

we have two small junk drawers but they are not junky--one perfectly fits a cut-down plastic cutlery drawer, and one section holds vitamins, one bag clips, one scissors, and one matches.
The second drawer is messier because that is where tape, string, elastic bands, glue, measuring tape, holepunch and calculator live. That one is more jumbled up, although there is no actual homeless junk there either.Posted 1 year ago # -
Sadly, the drawers in my desk (there are 4) are edging towards junk drawer territory. While everything in there is an office supply of some sort, the drawers are really deep and so everything ends up in a big jumble. I know I still have some uncluttering to do with it though, before I try to organize.

Hmm, I don't see anything wrong in having an extremely miscellaneous drawer somewhere, but make sure you call it just that or the label junk will start attracting stuff of strange origin or simply things that already have a home elsewhere. Office stuff belong in the office of my home, crafting stuff in the craft section of a closet, maintenance tools (drill, screwdrivers, light bulbs and such) are on their way to the basement since they don't have to take up valuable real estate in the apartment, kitchen gear stays in the kitchen, and so forth. And, inevitably, there is one dedicated space for miscellaneous stuff :D Currently I believe this resides in the entryway where a functioning landing strip should be allowed to prosper, but no, miscellaneous it is.
