I have had great success with Trader Joe's shampoo & conditioner, as well as their body wash. I would say it is the best product for your money IF you have a store close by which many (sadly) do not. If you don't have a beloved TJs, look for products that are biodegradable. I have found that these are gentlest on the hair & skin. Method & Burts Bees are examples. Drugstore.com & your local target do a good job of stocking these products. I have also found that costco carries Avalon Organics. I like their shampoo & conditioner a lot, but find the need to condition much much less often than ever before. I have short normal-dry hair. Since switching to biodegradable (& thus more natural) products a few years back, I have noticed that my hair is not as dry & I rarely if ever get split ends. Good luck finding what works best for you & let us know!
Old thread, I know. but FWIW, I just use a homemade bar of soap then a quick conditioner.
I always loved Redkin Clean. Lovely stuff - nice smell, gentle yet make my hair feel so good.
Regardless of which shampoo you use always remember to use very little. My hairdresser told me that is one of the most common mistakes people make, using too much shampoo. And only put it on your head and the rest of your hair will get washed when you rince it, no need to lather all the hair in shampoo.
I use specific shampoo and conditioner (and leave in detangling spray) due to the fact that my hair is thick, long, curly, and now dyed (I am not going quietly when it comes to grey hair!)
depending on your hair type however, Dr. Bronner's liquid soap works on nearly everything if you follow the dilution suggestions for various tasks. It's nice to have one bottle of soap that works for hair, dishes, laundry, stain removal, etc. Not the answer for everyone or everything, but perhaps worth considering.
If you have curly hair this site http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/ has a lot of good information. I "wash" my hair with sauve conditioner and use la looks gel for styling. It's cheap and does the job better than any high dollar stuff I've ever used and the suave ocean breeze condioner is rated 4 (10 is the most toxic) on the skin deep data base.
Shampoo is one of those very individual preferences but what I will say is that none of them ever work as well as they make out of TV. Some of those adds are bordering on faulse advertising.
I really like the "Yes To" brand (Yes to Carrots, Yes to Tomatoes, Yes to Cucumbers, etc.) It doesn't make my hair feel like it is coated in plastic.

And they donate a portion of proceeds to the Yes to Seed Fund that teaches kids healthier lifestyles.
