LOL, last night I slept in a long underwear top and fleece pants, and then I was still cold, so ended up adding a down throw over 2 blankets and a quilt. This morning I took out the winter duvet. I should be warmer tonight.

Those of you that get too cold do you have heating in your bedrooms?
Just curious, I'm with bandicoot on this, sleep in my birthday suit the ultimate uncluttered solution. The heating goes off overnight and I am warm enough under the duvet. I do have a summer cotton and winter t-shirt nightie used if I'm away sharing sleeping space with someone other than DH.Posted 5 months ago # -
Netleigh, about all Finnish housing has started sending hot water through radiators by now and then it is up to the individual owners/tenants of flats in high-storey buildings to regulate the level in the apartment. If you think of the house structure itself, it is good to have not too great differences in temperature between night and day, which was completely ignored in many cases in Denmark during winter months, but then they have a lot of mildew problems in comparison with Finland from what I've experienced. Although we have a nice temperature here, I still cool down when I sleep, even in the summer. I guess this is individual physiology :)

I live in New England, where the housing stock is old and heating is quite expensive. Most of the houses in my neighborhood date from the late 1800's and early 1900's, which is charming until the heating bill arrives! The bill can go from zero in the summer to up to $400 a month in the winter for a small apartment. (At night in the winter, it's pretty typical for it to be 15F-20F (-9C to -6C) outside, and in the summer, it can be 75F/24C at night.)
To keep things affordable, we have a timed thermostat that turns the heat on to about 66F/19C when we're getting up in the morning, lowers it so that the heat won't come on until the temperature falls to 55F/12C during the day when we're out and can take advantage of heat from the sun, raises it to 66F/19C again when we come home, then lowers it to 59F/15C while we're sleeping.
We're probably more extreme than some folks in not having the heat kick in until the 50s, but I know others who have their thermostats set lower!
Even when it is hot, I do need some sort of layer. When I have slept in my birthday suit in the summer, my husband gets annoyed because I wrap a sheet around me - "like a burrito" he says! A thin t-shirt and thin bottom of some sort works pretty well as a substitute. As it gets colder out, though, we do add more blankets to the bed.

I like being in my BS under a sheet and light quilt, and have to have the box fan going no matter what time of year, sometimes the ceiling fan too! -- and the humidifier. My partner is addicted to the full on adult size footie sleepers. She currently is sporting a black one with little green grinch heads on the toes. ROTFL!
I keep the house at about 70, though - it's close to 10 degrees colder downstairs where the older two kids are. I invested in small ceramic heaters for their rooms as to get their rooms warm means turning the whole upper floor into a sauna. They don't use much electric to run and it saves our gas bill!

I also have an irrational fear of having to run out of the house because of fire, or something. So I sleep in lightweight gowns. I currently really like the Simply Vera Wang options at Kohls. Not your typical "girly" colors and nice fabric. I could probably get away with wearing the tank top ones as a summer dress, but I don't. In the winter I need sleeves.
When I travel, I sleep in a cami and PJ pants or shorts.

Netleigh, we don't have heat in our bedroom, but rather depend on the heat from the rest of the upstairs to keep it warm. We heat eith a wood stove and have a programmable gas heater as well. As Nina noted, we have a condensation problem in our colder bedroom when the outdoor temps are below freezing, an they've been in The -10/-20F range. We run a fan in the bedroom to circulate the warmer air into that room. It is probably in the low 60'sF there, which with a winter duvet is usually fine. The rest of the house we keep about 68F during the daytime, and 62F at night.

I have lounge wear that I put on in the evening if I'm going to read or watch TV -- some cotton pants and a T-shirt. But I can't sleep with pants on, so I wear a nightie. I agree with Shebolt -- that the Vera Wang nightgowns at Kohls are very comfy, and not ugly. But I am seriously thinking about ordering myself a silk nightie. After 27 years of marriage, I need to at least be kind to my husband's eyes.
