I washed and dried my iPod! :(
I am so upset!
Sorry for the rant. I can buy a new one. I'm just feeling so stupid!
I did that to my phone once ... and ended up reactivating an older phone and then using it for about 2 years, until it was a relic. I loved making good use of the old thing until it was all used up!
Oh that is awful... my sympathies...
It's probably dead, but there have been reports of iPods surviving the washer and dryer. If you google search for ipod and washing machine, you may find some suggestions - I've seen suggestions ranging from immersing it in rice (to absorb the water) to putting it under a warm lamp. It may not work but those things are pretty cheap to try.
Thanks for the sympathy! :)
I will have to try that, toberead!
I'll get my fingers crossed, Claycat.

Hope this helps!
Okay, it's in the rice! It will be an interesting experiment, if nothing else. :)
I dropped my phone in dirty water once. I fished it out, rinsed it off in clean water (figured it couldn't get any worse), took it out of its protective leather pouch and took off the back to let it dry in the air. I put it back together after that weekend and it worked for quite some time afterwards (a year or so).
DH dropped his phone in my glass of wine one time. He opened it up, removed the battery, dried it off and it worked fine.
Hope yours will be okay :)
i am unreasonably attached to my iThings, so i feel your pain.
here is hoping the rice does the trick.
I think it is important to remove the battery and you get a better result.
Hoping the rice works! If it's been through the washer it might need a few days though. Good luck!
Thank you all so much! I didn't think about the battery! Doh!
I am also unreasonably attached to my iThings, bandicoot! :)
I use to work in a Quality Assurance lab for electronics. If there is a possibility of saving it, follow these steps:
Crack it open like you would to replace the battery and remove the battery.
Immerse the rest of the iPod in distilled water (this is very important, distilled water has most if not all of the yummy tasting minerals removed from it).
Let it soak for like 10-15 minutes then drain and stick it with rice or bags of moisture absorbing silica gel (those packets of "do not eat" stuff, probably purchase them at Radio Shack) for 72 hours if not longer.
Do the same thing SEPARATELY with the battery.
The biggest problem with water damage is short circuiting during the initial exposure to water or deposits of minerals, soaps, salts, etc shorting out the device in the future once battery power is reapplied.
Passive gadgets (stuff without their own power source) like USB sticks usually fair the wash with a lot more success.
I have no idea how to open my iPod nano!
iPods are not actually designed to be cracked open, that's a thing for the Genius Bar. If the rice doesn't work, and you have an Apple Store locally, go and see if they have any suggestions. They'll be able to take a look and tell you if it's fixable. In particular if you have the Apple Care insurance, do it - even if the damage isn't supposed to be covered, I've experienced the Genius Bar guys going above and beyond.
I didn't think so, Vivace. Thanks for the info. If it doesn't come alive again, I may upgrade to an iPod classic. I haven't lost any content. It was all on my iTunes. After the initial shock of stupidity, I have recovered, and I am ready to move on! :)
The iPod Touch is great, Claycat!
