....But even I was having doubts this morning when I counted 93 of my own socks that did not have matches or have holes! In the garbage they went! Feels good!

i've got 3 pairs each of those small sports socks in black and white. they all go with each other.
and i've got 3 pairs of hand knitted crazy socks that mix and match and even the pairs are mismatched to begin with.... perfect for me.Posted 1 year ago # -

LOL! I love socks! I have a lot, though I weed them every 6 weeks or so for "loners." Those I give to a young friend who doesn't believe in wearing matching socks to begin with. :) I have 3 pairs of those crazy socks that mix and match as well....

Wendy, if you were heading down the road to hoarding (and with that many unmatched socks I understand you concerns) it sounds like you have turned yourself around. Go now and see what else you can find to get rid of.

Claycat - you hit on the nail. I wear socks proably 355 days a year! Well, maybe a little less if I'm on vacation somewhere warm. :) But I'm thinking I probably do need to weed some more out. I have some that I seldom wear because I don't like the feel of them on. But then I wash them and forget I was going to add them to the donate bag....

In my defense, I live in Minnesota. We just got 20 inches of snow and it is 4 degrees F!
I actually weeded a lot today! 4 bags for Goodwill and 3 garbage! Thanks to you all for the amusing honest support.

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion my Mom was "almost" a hoarder!
yOu know those rolling carts with 3 drawers- she had all 3 drawers stuffed to the brim with socks- easily 30 pair per drawer. In her defense- she was always cold- especially her feet!Posted 1 year ago # -
@Mimi 7-9 pairs, assuming a weekly wash cycle and needing two pairs 1-2 days a week (i.e. when going out, working out, etc.).
To keep it simple, I only wear black socks and only buy socks in bulk, so they are interchangeable. I do have two "sets" of socks though, cotton for warm weather and wool for cold weather.

yes, recycler, i came to a similar conculsion. i have a weekly washing cycle for socks (ect.) and i need one pair each day, plus 2 for sports plus 1 for just-in-case (rainy day-> wet feet etc). so ten pairs would be enough. ha! now i know what to throw away right after coming home :)

I confess that I have a sock thing. I have 10 pairs of different over-the-knee socks and 3-4 pairs of normal white socks. Before I got into socks though I was really big into tights and stockings. I have 12 pairs of those left (I switched over because I often sit "Indian" style which always put holes in the toosh area, lol!).

So 4.5 years ago my mother bought me about 50 pairs of socks before I went to college, I am currently down to 30ish pairs from standard attrition and that is still too many for me.

I like to have at least 8 pairs of low cut white cotton socks which I wear with my sneakers. Sometimes I carry an extra pair of socks and shoes (or boots) in the car during bad weather. My 3 pair of black socks are enough right now with black pants and shoes because I'm not working outside the home.
I launder my own clothes about every 7 days, give or take a little. There are just the two of us sharing the washer and dryer. Works OK for me...

I have 15-20 pairs. Black, two brands, and bought on three occasions so they are very easy to sort. I read the OP a while ago and have to admit I'm still rather startled by it; seems there would be many socks if one would count all the socks on the whole globe. Wow.
