I still don't think the editing is that bad, though.
As, i've mentioned, i watch the show for my own benefit, and really, my comment wasn't meant to be offensive to anyone.
I understand that the object must've been very important to her, or else i guess she wouldn't be looking for it in that situation. I mean, i don't blame her for doing it.
It's just that in the moment, it seemed to me as if some ring directed what people were doing, even if it was damaging to their own health. So basically, the whole team was caught around one little thing, as if the ring somehow "ruled them all".
And i thought, in LOTR, i watched the story in way in which i recognized that in essence, its just a silly story. I would never get possessed by a ring to push me that far, would i?
But here, people seem to be acting so similar to this silly story, yet i know perfectly well that it is something important to that woman, just as some other object may be important to me. She seems oblivious to what that object is currently doing to her (putting her in danger).
So, in essence, can i be doing the same in some situations? Are my possessions forcing me to do things that i really wouldn't do? I recognized that even though i don't recognize such a situation when im personally involved, in any moment i could remember many instances in the past that i would be doing the exact same thing. Rings in rat shit? Not really, there are no rats here, and i hate to wear rings (note to self - why do i own rings than @.@?). But there are still countless instances of the same behavior. Not wiping that dusted corner because of some porcelain pig? Procrastinating vacuuming due to stuff and little objects that might be lying on the floor, or avoiding cleaning the toilet because i'm arranging my stuff in another room. Yeah, i guess i would fit in here. In the same way, my stuff makes me put my health in danger, even if slightly. Got another one - eating junk foods - cookies, chocolate, for dinner because some healthier ingredient in the fridge is obstructed with potentially gone bad foods? Yes, yes, check, yes.... So the danger to my health is not really as acute, but the little acts of destroying my health are cumulative in real life. So it helps me see, that while it may seem harmless, that porcelain pig might just not be so harmless after all, looked at from a different point of view. It's stuff that is obstructing things that are important to me, and messing with my priorities in life. That's why i meant with "LOTR, much".
Hoarding may be a mental illness, but it's not an excuse not to clean up. Not for them that they shouldn't try to improve (so congrats to everyone brave enough to enter that show!) neither for everyone else not to clean, since our situation is not as bad as theirs, or since that we are healthy this "couldn't happen to us".
As for labeling anyone because of their situation - we can only ever do our best. It may not always turn out to be the best choices we make, and some may end up with houses full of stuff. Still, it is always a good thing to try to turn around your situation when it seems that something has gone wrong. Labeling people with negative words makes no sense, unless you know someone who wakes up in the morning, and tells themselves happily: "today, i will pick the worst choices, and hopefully end up in a situation that will be hard to get out off and try to live my life so that it will suck most". I never met anyone like that, though. Even if i may disagree with peoples choices, everyone is doing how they know best.
