Looking for ideas! I am moving in a week and therefore frantically trying to get everything done. In addition to packing today, I thought I would fly through all the laundry that has been accumulating for the past two weeks. Well, in my haste, I neglected to check the pockets of my shorts, and I washed a pack of strawberry kiwi gum. The inside of my dryer is coated with it. Ugh. Any ideas for removing it? I was able to scrape the bigger pieces off, but there's still a coating of gum everywhere. And now I can't finish my laundry!! This day is not going according to plan ...

here is Heloise's suggestion (she lives here in San Antonio):

Susan - THANK YOU! I don't have any powdered laundry detergent, but I will get some this afternoon and try it. If Heloise says it works, it must!! :)
BTW, my husband is moving to San Antonio to work on a construction project this fall. I can't wait to visit - it looks like a beautiful place.

if all else fails try a citris based solvent called "Goo Gone". it's not toxic but I warn you it's a bit oily and the smell is SUPER strong, so only use in case of last resort... 'cause you'll take just as long cleaning it out of the dryer as you do the gum- it's not something you'd want your clothes smelling like! better than losing use of your dryer however..

Peanut butter softens gum.
Freezing the PB with an ice cube makes it easier to chip off.

happymonkey: when you come visit let me know and we can get together -- you can inspect my closets or something equally geeky :) I'm a great tour guide.

IT WORKED! Heloise does it again (actually the biggest thank you goes to my husband, who provided the elbow grease - what a job!).
Susan, I'd love to get together when I come to San Antonio. But forget the closets -- I want to see your beautiful kitchen!
Luxcat, I have Goo Gone and didn't even think of using it! That probably would have worked.
JuliaJayne, the PB would probably have helped chip off the bigger parts, but it was ALL OVER the inside of the dryer, almost like paint in a lot of places. I've never seen a bigger mess!
Thanks for all the suggestions! My dryer looks brand new!
